Hello Dan, although I have not been to Gale but have been to Albfeira a few times. Gale is a small place just outside of Albufeira more known for its beach than its night life unlike its big brother, there are a few cafe and restaurants for food and drink so you should be able to have a nice time and relax as much as you want, that said you can pop to Albufeira if you do fancy a bit of a good night out as it is only a short taxi ride away.

We have stayed in Gale on a number of occacions and yes it is very quiet but has a few nice restaurants in the area and a wonderful cake shop (Boca Doce) not sure that's how you spell it but the cakes are gorgeous you also get a nice sandwich or snack at lunch time, nice relaxing area. good luck with the new baby

I think it will be just what you are looking for Dan, but it's a bit late to worry about that now isn't it...
