Oh No
Just had phone call from Thomsons our cruise on the Gemini and stay in Phuket have been cancelled were gutted

oh dear- that is bad news for you. Are you going to look at another cruise?
Not sure yet we will just have to look at alternatives Took us ages to decide on this cos its our 25th Annuversary
Last Easter we did HK,Saigon and BKK. When we combined with Singapore we flew direct to Koh Samui.
Other companies will do it. Premier Holidays do it for example. They also have the Virgo.
I am a little stunned we are booked on the Gemini Cruise and stay from the 26th December. I have not been informed of it being cancelled, i cannot wait untill i can get in touch with them. The only thing i was concerned about was the fact no holidays or flights to Thailand were coming up for my chosen dates on the Thomson or Portland web site, as our friends were going to come with us.
So have Thomson pulled the charter flights to Phuket? I was on their website and the Phuket does not even feature on the drop down menu of destinations beyond May 2007. If your heart is still set on the destination remember thats there are loads of specialist operators to Thailand who will be able to put your holiday together using scheduled airlines..or DIY it.
We were going for new year. I have telephoned my travel agent, who is now ringing Thomsons for me. She was not aware of anything being cancelled, but i did ask her to try and get the flights up for Thailand next winter. She sounded very surprised when she could not !!!!!!. The web site was displaying holidays to Thailand in December 06 for winter 07/08, then they stopped displaying it in the drop down box about 6 weeks ago. I am now waiting in anticipation for her to call me back. Well can you blieve it !!!! yes it is cancelled due to lack of demand !!!! They will have to pull all their brochures in now, it is heavilly featured. I really am sick now. I thought it was the cruise part that was cancelled. No flights to Thailand with Thomsons.
I have tried Premier Holidays they do a simular holiday with the same cruise but starting in Singapore, trouble is the cost ,Thomsons was going to cost roughly £3100 this is coming up at £4500 for the 2 of us.I have contacted a couple of othe places and waiting for them to get back to us Hi Carol Let me know how you get on with your holiday.

Is the cruise the crucial part of your holiday or is it the destinations?
Hi Fiona, probably more interested in the destinations but as we haven't done a cruise before we thought it would be a good way of getting around without having to keep moving our belongings!!!
Tried to get information from my travel agent, thats where ive been all afternoon. My holiday is now cancelled !!!! . They also told me that Thomsons is not the only company to pull out of Thailand next winter, and that they obviously know something that they are not telling us right now. They have tried all ways to get me my holiday. I could not get the same dates, the same holiday, the same cruise. Not even a 2 week holiday in Pukett because there are no flights with the tour companys that i can afford. I was quoted 5,500 for a holiday but it was to Singapore then a 5 night cruise on the virgo and then so many nights in Singapore. I am just fed up. I am now even thinking of changing my destination !!!!. Something must be going on, Thailand is a very popular destination, so why would the tour companys pull out of flying there next winter.
I've just had a quick look on the Kuoni site and was able to get 14 night holidays to Phuket for under 3,000 departing 26th December. Was there any mention of which other operators are pulling out (Mytravel by any chance?). By the looks of it, its the charter operations that are pulling out...for some reason they never seem to be able to establish Thailand as a destination for the charters...strange really given the huge number of people from the UK who visit Thailand.

it is very easy to DIY Thailand. Have a look at what Paul got. Go on to the likes of Expedia to find out their Bangkok flights. Internal flights are straightforward. Have a look at Phuket and see which hotel you would pick. It may not be the one you were going to on the cruise. Krabi is close to Phuket- have a look at that. If you haven't been to Thailand you are in for a treat
Paul
where are you staying in BKK?
Thanks fiona, Sunbear, Paul and Anne, i am looking at other possibilities, i do have a slight problem and that is i do not want to do internal flights. This was one of the reasons i do like to cruise and stay. I will fly but it takes me 2 weeks to get back on the flight. No i am not joking haha. I hate flying, but i always push my self to get to my destination. I do like to combine the beach with sight seeing and thought this combination would be the perfect balance. I am not ruling anything out and i am open to sugestions. I have in hand loads of brochures and my computer. It is funny how the next day it not so bad. Even though i am really gutted i know one way or another i will get my holiday. Yesterday i was told all the tour companys that i thought was flying to thailand, ie Thomsons, Thomas cook, My travel etc have all pulled out of the next winter programme. I am interested to find out why, i dont buy "due to lack of demand".
If you wanted to try Thailand then there is Hua Hin which is about 3 hours drive from Bangkok. I priced the journey out recently and it came to about £80 return but that was on an upgraded car. Have a look at the Far East forum for other destinations as well.

I'd like to keep this thread as further members may find out about the cancellation through it. For further questions it may be better if you start a new thread- instead of sharing this one.
well hopefuly this is it. We have just booked with escape2luxury 3 nights at the Shangri La Hotel including Horizon Club and 12 days at the the Karon Beach Resort for just over £1200 each including all transfers. Have read good reports on Shangri La has anyone else stayed there.
