My partner and I are due to fly out to Tunisia for the 1st time on the 14th of May. We are unclear about a few things, hopefully somebody will be able to clarify for us:
We have just booked a last min holiday and are staying in Emira Hotel Hammamet. The broshure doesnt give out much details. Has anyone stayed here or is familiar with the hotel who can fill us in?
Money wise: - I have previously read that you are unable to take tunisian currency out of the country. Therefore before we travel how and where do we exchange our sterling to tunisian currency? also what happens if we have tunisian currency left over when we need to fly back? Is it just the notes that you can exchange back to sterling?
Kind regards
Debbie
Hi Debbie. We stayed at PEK so don't know about the hotel. I can help with the money issue though. Tunisia has a closed currency - you cannot bring money in or take money out of the country. Also the exchange rate will be the same all over the country. You should take travellers cheques and you can change these at nearly every hotel. If you want to tip the porter at the airport they will ask you for pound stirling. If you'd prefer to push your own luggage just politely ignore them. the bell boys at the hotel also accept stirling. When you only have a couple of days of your holiday left, just change small denominations so that you don't have much left over. I think you are allowed to Keep around 8 dinars each to use at the airport on the way home, but you can use a card or sterling for any purchases you make at the duty free.
Many thanks for al your useful info. It has answered my quetsions in great depth
many thanks once again
Debbie
