Hi. Has anyone used their GHD hair straightners in Cuba. The new ones are universal voltage & am wondering has anyone put them to the test to see if they work here. I dont see any point shelling out for some if they have poor performance.
Any help appreciated
Thanks
Hi, my wife Sara took hers to Sandals last year and they worked perfectly
Linda
We stayed at the sol rio luna & mares Guardalavaca & Mine worked fine . Not too sure how to explain it but they have a kind of dual socket that has both the american pin & european pin underneath . The voltage is fine .
Cheers
mine are the old ones and they worked just fine .My sons girlsfriends are even older than mine and hers were fine too. I would check out the situation at your hotel before you splash out on new ones if you dont need to. What hotel are you staying at .
I you already have GHD double check what voltage is marked on them they will have the voltage which will either be 220/240 or 110-240, if they are only marked 220/240 the probably won't work.
Mine are marked 220-240 Graham . Despite cuba being 110 Most of the tourist hotels are 220 volt .
Ahh I now understand the post above re the sockets, so you have a choice of voltage either 110 or 220 depending on you electrical item.
We are considering Blau Varadero or possibly Riu Varadero providing it is built by then as its still under construction. We are looking to go September time 2011

Just searched the posts for GHD's at the Blau and they will be fine . 220v sockets .
I have a feeling if you were going anywhere else in the caribbean they wouldnt work and you would definately need the new dual voltage ones . cuba seems to be an exception.
you have a choice of what adapter to use Graham I.e european or american pin (I took both) but if I understand it correctly the tourist hotel sockets are actually 220 volt (cuban homes I think are 110) meaning our appliances work fine but the canadians (you get loads in Cuba) run the risk of frying their appliances without a special convertor . Just searched the posts for GHD's at the Blau and they will be fine . 220v sockets .

Slightly off topic but I used my GHD's in Jamaica and Dom Rep and worked fine too
That's interesting pinky . Didnt think they worked in Dom republic . Are yours the newer dual voltage type ?
I have new ones now Lynn which I used for Jamaica but I did have the older style for Dom Rep and used a travel plug
Mine didnt work in DR or Jamaica
I went in April to Jamaica and worked fine 20linda no idea why yours didn't work?
We got back from DR on sunday & i was told that the power supply was weak. Even the room clocks would lose time during the day. I borrowed some 110v ones & they were ok but not GHD quality
I must have a lucky GHD then also used on the cruise I recently went on - didn't expect them too but they did.
Is this the same answer you got on Trip Advisor
