Chiclana is a long way from Faro as it right along the Costa de la Luz coast.

I have just checked out some mileages for you:-

Gibralter to Chiclana - 67 miles - 1 hour 36 min

Seville to Chiclana - 81 miles - 1 hour 28 min

Faro to Chiclana - 201 miles - 3 hours 20 min

Might be worth you looking at Seville??

According to the via michelin site it is 46 miles from Faro Airport to Isla Canela. When we went to Isla Canela it took us about an hour to drive from Faro airport.

We stayed at the Riu Atlantico - fabulous hotel - right by the estuary with all the fishing boats going up and down. This was a few years ago now and there was a lot of building work going on - most of that should be done by now.

You will have a great time - lovely beaches that stretch for miles - can be a little windy though. Got room for me in your case!!! Only joking - we are off to Majorca on the 9th October.

I have a house near Chiclana and the timings pippa has posted seem about right.

I'd say Seville is the best option if you don't want to fly from Stansted, although Jerez Airport is only 30-40 mins away.

Taxi's will probably work out expensive, have you thought about car hire instead?

Where are you thinking of staying?

Thanks for all your replies.

We're looking at the Riu Chiclana, as it seems to get very good reviews and I generally reckon you can't go wrong with the Riu or Iberostar chains.

That's in Novo Sancti Petri, very near us and to be honest all the hotels in that area seem to be of a very high standard although I've never been in that particular one.

I might call in when I'm over next month
