flight changes from Edinburgh

We have booked through Balkan to fly edinburgh to varna on 26th june - going to golden sands - BUT got a letter to say we are now flying to Bourgas with a 2 hour transfer time from the airport - does anyone know if this is a realistic transfer time - what are the roads/buses like? What would be the cost for a taxi ?- are they any better than the buses? Has this happened to anyone else? Have you been able to do anything about it? Balkan have said that I can choose another hotel in another area to give a lesser transfer time but I picked our holiday very carefully and really want to go to Golden Sands area. There probably wont be many good holidays left as it is only 7 weeks to go.

Hi Juliemac,

Sorry to hear this bad news.

Unfortunately they can do it, and it happens often - see Balkan booking conditions under 'If we change your holiday'.

They will however provide free transportation, and 2 hours is realistic. I think the road is fairly good, a bus would be probably much slower, and a taxi no real advantage and pricey - don't know how much.

It will however be a most interesting journey, if that's any consolation.

Thanks Peter, my main concern is that we will have a 2 year old with us and I really don't fancy 2 hours on a bus mid afternoon having travelled since about 7 in the morning with her. It looks like our accommodation is worth it though, so at this late stage I think we have to just go for it.

Hi Julie,

The main E87 road from Bourgas airport to Golden Sands is, for the most part, pretty good by Bulgarian standards - at least the tour operators' coaches tend to be newer & more luxurious than those used in the public transport system.

Have a great holiday, despite the flight/transfer problems.

I can't see why they cannot transfer people onto the Edingurgh flights on Mondays as you can still book holidays flying from this airport to Varna

They probably would if people asked, but if Balkan made the changes themselves they have to give the option to cancel, and there could even be compensation to pay.

We have changed our dates to avoid flight 'diversions', but not everyone can easily do this because of work commitments.

they should not be showing any flights as still available as there is definitely no flight from edinburgh to varna on the monday - it is now edinburgh to bourgas - perhaps if you were to book you would find you are on the same coach as we are. I contacted the travel company earlier today to find out if we could transfer on to the glasgow to varna flight on sunday 25th - dont know if there will be any space left but I would rather travel an hour here in the cold than 2 hours in the sun. If this is not successful then we will just go with their offer and stop moaning - at least for the meantime..........
