My first thought, however I was unable to find any other accomadation that time of the evening unless I wanted to take out a second mortgage.

Over the last few years I have stayed in quite a lot of hotels in London (I live in Germany and visit the Uk on a regular basis) the standards of some hotels are terrible, broken locks on the door, things that don't work, dangerous electrics and dirt. Not all hotels are like this but many are unacceptable and if you are checking in late in the evening you don't have any chance of finding something else at a reasonable price. I stayed three nights last year in Paddington, and could have had a weeks holiday in Spain HB for what I'd paid. I now book through http://www.DiscountCityHotels.com and find they have a good choice of hotels at various prices.

I normally stay with holiday inns or Premier lodge and travel Lodge all reasonable and oftern have good offers. Unfotunatly we were unable to book these on the night in question.
This thursday I am staying at the Travel Lodge £26.00 for the night in Farrindon where I know the rooms are always clean and comfortable.
