Do I need to pack my bikini tops for koh sumui,also what is the correct footwear in the grand palace etc in Bangkok.

yes you should pack bikini tops. You will get a few going topless but not many and the Thais do not really like that.
Footwear for the Temple- it should have at least a strap round the back of your foot. Your foot does not need to fully enclosed. Keep clothes at least knee length and cover your shoulders- a short sleeved top is fine.
On a practical note- wear loose fitting clothes as it is very hot within the complex and you end up dripping of sweat. Take a hat or a brolly to help keep you in the shade and plenty of water( and loads of photos- it is some place
