Quite simply .......No !
You can find out everything you need to know here on HT !!!!

I second that!! More upto date info on here and a more biased view as you usually get more than one opinion of a place. Even if your a regular visitor you learn something new every year.

Your local library should have a few, I know ours does.

have to agree,we found this site invaluable for our first visit,i took notes on which restaurants to visit and didnt go wrong once also which shacks to use,and trips to do,also the H.T meets were and still are a great source of information.

I started a notebook of all the recommendations from HT for our 1st visit. We are now planning our 4th and I still jot down lots of useful information. My OH calls it 'The Bible' and we take it with us when we go because when I get to Goa I can barely remember my name nevermind all the places to see/things to do, restaurants to eat in!

Having said that I did put 'The Rough Guide to Goa' on my Xmas list the first year we went and find it useful for maps and getting a sense of where and how far apart the different areas/resorts are.

I have The Rough Guide and Lonely Planet,

The GTDC Goa-Tourism site has lots of useful information - http://www.goa-tourism.com/

http://www.findall-goa.com/index.php Is a good site for maps and events.

goa holiday homes - http://www.goaholidayhomes.com/ is also a good site

But of course for answers to your questions, here is the best place.

Thanks guys. I agree that this place is a haven of information - but I'd like to read a guide book or two on the train two and from work. And it's handy to have one when we're actually in Goa.

the rough guide or the lonely planet are the only two which come to mind, but make sure you get up to date copies

Well there are quite a few guide books and I've read four so far with another three on order at the library :rofl

The best one I've found so far is Goa and Mumbai by Lonely Planet, in case any one else fancies reading one.

We use Rough Guides for all places we travel, they are interesting, useful & easy to use. I believe they have released a new Goa version this month.

While I agree the info on this forum is more up to date & varied, I find it useful to have a guidebook for Maps etc & I just enjoy reading them!

I'd also go with the Rough Guide.

This site is brilliant for all sorts of information but a guide book is great for getting around with and orientating yourself.

They're also really useful for getting background information.
