Does this organisation insist that the children convert to Chrisitianity before they will help ?
Lonely Planet has had its day now anyway, it used to be an essential read for anybody travelling around India but having read through the last few years additions I found it to be quite inaccurate about many things.

No they dont, they will help any child that needs it etc etc. I dont think the bible thumping comes till much later on  (no offence intended)

Lassigirl i would love for you to expand on why you are knocking el shaddia probably best in private message to save HT getting into any grief. Reason that i ask is that i have done various bits for them and was going to again in March but if there is something a bit dodge i would rather know about it, but if they are given a hard time just because they promote certain beliefs then that is a bit sad.

I wasnt really having a go at El-Shaddai, just wondering why they had been singled out for a special write up, as there are many other people doing great work with the chidren in Goa

ok, it just seemed from your post that you had a problem with it, dont get me wrong i am nothing to do with any charity in goa or anywhere else but as i said from the way your post was written it could be misconstrued that there was issues.

I assume that they had been singled out as they are a well known charity in the area, ie they are always at anjuna, always doing stuff in the UK etc so have quite a high profile. I have never seen any other english based charity in goa ie children walking tall etc and only found them via this website, so thats one possible reason.

Personally i think they all do a sterling job and wish them all the luck.

I personally think that converting children is not a charitable practice....

El Shaddai has been in the loney planet for 4 or 5 years I think... At that time they were the only ones on the block. We (Children Walking Tall) don't publise as much as El Shaddai, El Shaddai probably spend more in advertising in a year than we make each year! :?

We have thought about requesting CWT to be put into the Lonely Planet but haven't had the chance... They also only add places that have been in existance for 3 years I think... We're only new (just over 2 years old at present so they might not accept us till next year anyway....)...

Thanks

any charity that helps the unfortunate children has to be good in my opinion. :)
