Me, the wife and our 2 boys (4 & 5) are off on our jollys on the 3rd. Me and my wife spent our honeymoon in Olu Deniz back in 2004... loved every minute. We feel fortunate to be in the position to be able to now take our sons out there and we have booked an AI trip to the Olu Deniz Resort Hotel for 11 nights
I'm just looking for a bit of info on how the area has changed since 2004 and if there's anything we need to be aware of by taking our kids there. We're not totally clueless; just looking for any other experiences from people who have taken their young families.
I'm also concerned about taking too much lira that has been exchanged in this country because I've heard about getting a better rate. How much can I expect per £100?
Are there any places that should be particularly avoided with young children?
Thanks in advance
Can't help you with the kids but do visit the private beach clubs on the lagoon rather than pay the entry fee to the main beach.
Any idea of the rates???
I was getting 2.2 lira to the pound in Hisaronu last week.
Bank rate is climbing steadily in our favour. Official rate is now up to 2.30.
I've worked out that we would be 70 lira better off getting our currency in Turkey... not to be sniffed at!
I have another thread whereby I am asking for information in respect to the Private Beach at the Sun City Hotel, the sister Noa complex to the Olu Deniz Resort Hotel (I understand facilities at both complex's can be used while staying at either Hotel).
I go in September for our 25th Wedding Anniversary to the Sun City and have been advised by Direct Holidays that the Private Beach and all facilities that go with the beach (Transfers, food, drink, canoes etc) and also Mountain Bikes are no longer available.
I have tried to get confirmation of this removal but have so far have been unsuccessful through Forums or emailing the Hotel direct.
If it wasn't too much to ask, would you be able to make some enquiries during your holiday?
I would not be offended in any way if you did not want to interrupt your special time with the family to do it and please accept my apologies for the direct approach but my Wife loved the Private Beach when we stayed at the Sun City before.
Hope you have a great holiday.
Regards - Alan
I imagine that we would want to take advantage of those facilities ourselves so I will let you know how we get on
VJ
Sorry for the late reply but I did see 2.26 being offered on Saturday last weekend.
VJ - Many Thanks.
VJ - Now you will be back I look forward to your review and hopefully you will be able to update me on the situation at the Noa complex.
I am currently in the process of writing a full review for the resort but I have a few comments which I have been asked to reply on specific to this thread.

vjohn82 - I wonder if you would be able to do me a favour while at the Hotel.

Yes both sites can be used at your leisure. OD resort and Sun City are literally a stones throw away from each other.
I go in September for our 25th Wedding Anniversary to the Sun City and have been advised by Direct Holidays that the Private Beach and all facilities that go with the beach (Transfers, food, drink, canoes etc) and also Mountain Bikes are no longer available.
Transfers are available from the Olu Deniz Resort at 10:30 and 14:00 - the only return time is 16:30 but they will come back for you if the bus is full. The bus only takes around 10/15 mins to get there or back.
Food is very expensive on the private beach... a pizza is around 20/22YTL compared to 10/14YTL in the main resort area (and even cheaper in the local villages restaurants). Drinks are expensive too, especially beer/wine etc. You cannot take drinks or food into the private beach area but this is easily overcome as I'm sure you will find (use a big bag and then wait for them to stop fussing over you to get out your contraband)
Goods like sandcastles and swimming equipment is also very expensive charging around the 12/20YTL mark compare to 5/14YTL in the main shopping resort.
Canoes are no longer free... I seem to recall the charge is 15YTL for an hour for a canoe, 15YTL for 1/2hr on the pedaloe and 20YTL for an hour.
Mountain bikes are no longer provided.
The beach is nice though and the sand is "traditional" (i.e. soft and pliable whereas the main beach in Olu Deniz is quite sharp and grainy/shale/stone.
I ended up taking sterling out there and changing 80% of it. They will offer you a better rate if you actually pay in sterling so keep that in mind
When we were last at the Sun City they also had a shuttle bus but I presume this is now a "shared" service between both Noa Hotels.
Were the soft drinks free while you were at the Private Beach and did they also provide free sandwiches around lunchtime or did you have to pay for anything now?
The canoes and pedaloes were also free the last time (as long as you stated you were at the Sun City) but the cost of these are not excessive so I don't mind paying.
I presume this was at the very end of the road as this is where it was before?
