A few weeks ago my wife and i returned fron grenada in the caribbean-i thought i'd post our thoughts up as we had a struggle finding any information ourselves. We flew with monarch and although the crew were more than nice, the flight was terribly cramped and uncomfortable. Grenada itself was far hotter than we expected having been to India twice, the two of us and two friends we went with had a nightmarish time with mosquito and particularly sandfly bites, we had a private appartment rental close to morne rouge beach which was more than comfortable, at weekends the beach literally belonged to the locals, we met a great many nice and friendly people in grenada but also found many to be rude, arrogant and selfish, not to mention a few cases of racism towards us-being called whities and honkies which we did not expect, we had a car and travelled the length and breadth of the country and the roads were quite scary and in places very dangerous, in particularly the local bus minibus drivers driving fast and dangerously, there were a great many starving and injured dogs wandering around and the donkeys and goats tied up on the side of the road with no food, water or shade were a very sad sight indeed, before we went we pictured st georges just like in the brochures, the pictures we were left with were those of scandalous prices and seeing three locals torturing a poor dog in full view of locals and tourists next to the fish market. Grand Anse beach was the most fantastic beach we have ever seen and that was just as we had imagined it as was morne rouge beach. for us there was not enough choice and variation of food and we felt it was probably more geared up for Americans, we were unable to find a single place that served a genuine authentic oildown and we were there for 21 days, we found the cost of a meal for two with drinks was around £30-£40, price of a cold bottle of beer was £1.50, fuel was around £3.50 a gallon, general day to day food, toiletries etc were more expensive than England. I'm sorry if any of this offends but this is how we found it, others may find it better or worse but we just wanted to make our opinions heard because it might be of help to others--we're happy to answer any questions here or by pm.
