I've never been to the lake district, but have heard good things about it. I've been to gretna green however and I must say myself and the oh weren't too impressed. I'm sure whatever you decide you'll have a wonderful and happy time.

I haven't been to the Lake District either. Gretna Green was lovely for the actual wedding, but it didn't impress me much as somewhere to stay. Sorry I couldn't have been of more help.

I got married at Gretna, loved it, but wouldn't stay there to be honest

Coming as I do from Dumfries - just up the road from Gretna & Gretna Green - I have to say I wouldn't really want to stay in Gretna/Gretna Green; however, if you want a romantic hotel, try the Hetland Hall, just 15 minutes further on from Gretna. We've stayed there a good few times, it's a lovely little country house hotel, in it's own grounds, with views form the front out over the Solway Firth. the website is http://www.hetlandhallhotel.co.uk/
Wherever you decide to stay, have a great time.

The Lake District is gorgeous, so I'd definetely stay there. I stayed in a lovely B&B called Somerset house in Grange over Sands which we used as a base to explore the rest of the Lake District.

I haven't stayed in this B&B but have been to Bowness/Windermere many times and it's lovely.

I have also been to Ambleside many times. These are typical Lake District towns and are really lovely but they are always busy with tourists. These 2 have four poster beds but there are many more B&B's on the website and they seem to be reasonable prices.

I think my favourite town is Keswick but if you want somewhere out of town there should be lots to choose from

i live near Gretna, the Anville Hall is lovely and all around there but i woulnd't recommend staying in the area to be honest, i think you would be better to stay in the lakes and do it that way
we live above the border but spend a lot of time in the lakes becasue its is so relaxing and easiful - i think it's a bit more romantic too
i would recommend Limefitt holiday park in Troutbeck - you can stay in a wooden lodge, if you fancy doing something a bit different.
hope you both have a lovely day

Lilysmum, if you havent booked yet then The Kings Head hotel near Keswick has a lovely 4 poster bed room with a hugh victorian bath. There is a lovely restaurant as well, the hotel is a 17th century coaching Inn. Another choice is where I had my honeymoon which is The Pheasant Inn at Bassenthwaite.its a bit more expensive than the Kings Head but well worth the money. I hope you have a lovely time and enjoy your wedding vow renewal.
