You will love it, it's not full of tourists, in fact when I was there last year I didn't here any English spoken, the weather can be a bit mixed but warm and mostly sunny, there are all sorts of bars but not that many restraunts because the locals eat at home, the best place to find cafe's is on the prom front where you can get a good meal. It's best to learn a bit of spanish so you can get a coffee or wine or a beer, and how to ask for the bill etc .... There is a good market and sports complex and not much else, so if you like drinking, playing tennis, going around the market a few times then like I said, you will love it.

Should be said that the beach is not bad either and the drive from the airport is nice an easy.

Its certainly not Benidorm but if your looking an easy time its a nice town.

It does have a very Spanish feel to it and if you wanna soak up that laid back attitude then this is the place, less people speak English but its not a problem, everyone is keen to facilitate the growing tourist business.

We were there in August but we'd be keen to try it in November without the kids, so let us know how you get on.

If you find the Lidl supermarket in the same block but round the corner near big car park there is a good chinese restaurent had two or three gorgeous meals there last week

I stayed in Guardamar for 4/5 days every month last year whilst our house was under construction. In winter when the sun shines it feels much warmer than in UK - I walked on the beach in shorts and tee shirt whilst locals wore overcoats and hats - but it gets quite cold after dusk. Heavy rains - The Gota Fria - come usually in October but last year were at the end of November.
The beaches stretch for ever, there are miles of walks in the pine forest and a lovely park with lots of wildlife.
Can't agree about the restaurants, there are dozens. The best of the many Chinese is the Nanking - referred to above. On the same street (Avendia De Cartagena) the best of the Italian is La Pizza Nostra. Along the same street alongside the Parc Reine Sofia are many more. Near to the Hotel Meridional is a very popular Argentinian Steak Restaurant and up the next side street is a Spanish restaurant claiming to serve the best paella in the area.
Guardamar is still very Spanish but is becoming more popular with Brits living a short drive away.

The comments in this thread about the beach are dead right, the beach in Guardamar is brilliant.

You hardly hear anyone speak English in Guardamar, but they all understand English in the bars and restaurants.

Am possibly looking at renting an apartment here and would like to know if anyone has ever been or even heard of the resort?,I know its obviously nothing like Benidorm but if anyone could fill me in on bars with entertainment,resteraunts etc,plus also would there be enough to do for an eleven year old boy.Thanks in anticipation.

I was wondering if anyone could help me. I am going to Guardamar at the end of July and I am stopping in a friends new villa. I don't know very much about this area of Spain and would be very grateful if anyone could share any information with me.

I have found out that it is a quiet town with a lovely beach and apparently not that far from torrevieja, is that right?

I am 18 so would like to know if there is any good nightlife nearby?
What about restaurants, is there many nearby and what are they like?
How far from Guardamar is Torrevieja, walking distance or only reachable by transport?

Please reply with any information.

Hi Hayley,

You will be about 10KM outside of Torrevieja. No problem with transport links, and not too expensive in a taxi to visit.

Loads of bars and restaurants in Guardamar....La Mata...(The next largest town towards Torre)....and Torrevieja itself.

Torre has a Pacha nightclub (not quite as good as Ibiza's, but good enough)....as well as many other night time attractions.

Hi,I would like some information about this area and the other places around the Torrevieja area please. We are thinking about trying this area next June for a couple of weeks.As we are both non-drivers we would need somewhere that has enough bars, restaurants and shops etc within a reasonable distance.Have seen some beautiful private apartments and they are reasonably priced as well which is part of the attraction but dont anything about the area as we have never been to Costa Blanca before.How does the cost of drinks,meals etc compare to the more well known resorts in Spain?Any help would be appreciated

As you are non-drivers it is very important that you are aware of the location of your rental property. There are a few urbanizations which advertise themselves as being within walking distance of the town, but in reality they are a drive away.

There are hundreds of bars and restaurants in Guardamar, so prices vary. But overall, I would say that it is cheaper than the larger resorts for food and drink.

A very pleasant location.

If you need any other information, I live a few kilometres from Guardamar.

Why not ask the owner/agent who should have an in depth knowledge of the apartment and the immediate area?

If you read Oly Daze post you will see why I asked for a personal opinion from someone who lives in the area rather than someone who wants me to rent their apartment.

A good owner/agent, and they are by far in the majority, will want you to a) have a good holiday, b) come back again, c) tell your family, friends and work colleagues. The owner/agent should know the immediate area inside out. I rent out my own apartment on the Costa Blanca and have often over the years not taken a booking because it is not right for the potential guest for a variety of reasons. I also stay in privately owned accommodation all over the world and I find the owners/agents to be honest people intent on me having a good holiday. It's a shame you have the view that owners/agents just want your money.

AHV, I don't have the privilege of knowing the majority of owners or agents, but if you are advising that we should always believe them, can we also assume that you see no benefit in a website such as this one, and that you will no longer be contributing to it?

All I am saying is that the vast majority of cases in my experience of renting self catering accommodation from private owners or agents around the world in the last 15 years or so has been positive and all those I have dealt with appear to me to have been honest people wanting me to have a good holiday.
