Definitely don't book any trips with your rep if you are going on a package as they are far mor expensive than if you book them in the resort.

Where in Gumbet is the Sunday market? I've been 5 times and never been to it!

If you walk out of Gumbet upt towards the main road it is about 10 minutes stroll. There is a cake shop called Papatya on the right and a supermarket, and you need to go down the road on the left opposite and the market is a couple of hundred yards down. It is only small and sells mainly fruits and veg but it's quite nice to have a look round.

It's worth taking a look at the Sunday market. As Kedi says, it's mostly fruit and veg, but they also do nuts, dried fruits, cheeses, yoghurt, breads and pastries, clothes, towels, shoes, blankets and other stuff. It's definitely more a locals market than a tourist attraction but we love it and stock up on fruit and veg for our holiday. The honey on sale is brill!

Which road do you class as the main road out of Gumbet? the big one from the top of Bar St or going towards Bodrum from down near Cafe Columbia / Jasmine Beach end of town! (I'm not the best with directions! ;) ) Am definitely intersted in paying the market a visit, we're in Gumbet for nearly 3 weeks this year so want to get stocked up in the apt on fruits, cheese, yoghurts and breakfast & snack items etc. (I'll probably just cheat and get a taxi there!! we're staying at Dost Apts this year, haven't stayed there before, are they anywhere near to it?! can see me jumping in a taxi and it being 30 seconds away!)

It isn't far from Dost really. It is on the main road going out from the top of bar street by the roundabout, so from Dost is is only five minutes wlak (or 30 seconds in a taxi ;) )

Fab, thanks!! I reckon I can manage a walk if it's that close by! ;) Will be there stocking up on our first Sunday there!

Hi

I could never give you all the detailed info all these fantastic members have been able to supply.

However - What I can say is myself and my wife went to Gumbet 8 years ago and had a fantastic holiday and since then we have been fortunate to travel all around the world but I am still pleased to say that Turkey has always been the most welcoming most lovley place, and such good value that this year we are GOING BACK TO GUMBET :) the first time I have gone back somewhere twice in 22 years.

17th September 2009 countdown begins................

You will probably find it has changed a bit in the last 8 years abut I'm sure you will still love it there. Where are you staying this time?

We are staying in the Royal Asarlik - We staying in Asarlik beach last time and are prepared for big changes around Gumbet but that's fine we are happy to hang around the Hotel now making the most of the All Inclusive.

Probably pop over to Kos for the day and do some walking into Bodrum.

Funnily enough I found some old photos last weekend of the old Bar Staff at the Asaralik beach and I noticed on the Royals website one of the chaps now must be a Manager or something. Good for him as he worked like a Trojan, cant remember his name though but Mehmet is always a good guess. :rofl

Possibly - my husband is called Mehmet ;)

Royal Asarlik is a lovely hotel, my husband's friend was working there last year so we went in a couple of times, I think he may be there this year too. Don't stay in the hotel all the time though, have a wander around Gumbet and see the difference. It actually hasn't changed so much in the last few years, just some places have changed names and a few new places have popped up but I'm sure you will recognise some places.
