As long as they stay together they should be perfectly safe, although they would either have to walk along the beach or along a dark part of the road, which is fairly quiet. I wouldn't suggest that either of them walk it alone though as it is quite a long walk. If they are coming home late it may be worth jumping on the dolmus, they run all night and stop outside WOW.
Thanks for the advice Kedi, bit worried now though. I shall probably have to go with them! Or they will have to stay onsite! They are used to having a bit of a free rein in Olu Deniz which I think may be an altogether different resort? I was never particularly worried in Side last year either as they made so many friends there and there was always quite a group of them going out together. I will play it by ear I suppose. Thanks l
I didn't mean to worry you, there really isn't any problem there and it would be a pity if they stayed in the hotel all the time. When they go out it will be fine as it will be light and as I said the dolmus stops right outside or if they prefer they can get a taxi home, it will only cost a few lira and they know they will be dropped to the door. It is only one part of the road that is a bit dark and there isn't really anything along there. I'm sure they would be safe but I know I don't like walking in the dark. In Gumbet they will be fine as it will be busy with lots of people around and it is a safe resort.
Thanks for the reassurance. I still feel Turkey is a safer option for a night out than the U.K to be honest. Everyone seems to look out for each other. My girls have made great friends over the last few years, I am not expecting Gumbet to be any different. Although I must admit I do have a longing to go back to Olu, I love that place!Everyone wanted another Turkey experience this year though and I will be asking which resorts to visit for maybe half a day as although we are AI we still like to see other resorts, maybe spend a morning there at least. Turkbuku, Turgetries, Bitez? Anything a taxi or Dolmus away really, picturesque and a nice beach not really bothered about shops as will probably do the market at |Turgetries at some stage.
Bitez is definitely worth a visit as it is only 10 minutes from WOW, you can walk there easy enough. The market at Turgutreis is on a saturday so that would be easy enough to do. Turkbuku is lovely too, it is nice just to wander along the sea front, they have all these little jetties along the front. Gumusluk is another very pretty place to have a wander around. The best place for the beach is Ortakent, it is lovely and sandy there and they even have camels on one part if you fancy a ride
Of course you should also go into Bodrum and have a look around too, it is just 15 minutes on the dolmus.
Kedi
There's plenty of people looking out for you, if in doubt get a taxi, the same as anyway really
Anyone got any photos of the City of Gumbet its self? Seems that nowhere online seems to show any???
EDIT: Sorry Kedi, i've had to remove your Facebook links. Members can easily search for them. Dazbo HT Mod
Just google Gumbet photos and there are loads there. Have a look here too
Thanks for the replies. I didn't realise those resorts were so close by. It's great that we will be able to walk to Bitez, we love a nice walk on holiday. If it's along the sea front even better. Any other resorts within an hours walk? I know it's hot in July but we like to stop off for a drink, have a chat and just basically take our time.
Have a look on Google Earth.
You can walk into Bodrum - just be aware of the hills!! If you take it slowly, it's quite enjoyable and if you usse the back roads you can avoid the worst hills and see some different parts of Gumbet and Bodrum.
Thanks for that, so glad we decided to try the Bodrum peninsular this year for a change. Looks like we will be out and about all over the place!
Bitez is just over a hill so quite a nice walk, although it is a bit steep on the way back up!
Do use the dolmus and get out and about the peninsula as well - there's so many lovely places to see.
