Yes GHD have brought out a new version of their fab straighteners that are dual voltage. I usually buy mine online from There's an item available on ebay called a "step up" transformer or converter. This will allow UK appliances to work normally in the USA or other countries with a different electrical supply.

Has anyone used one of these adaptors and do the straighteners heat up as they do here in UK?
I gave up straightening my hair with the rain that falls anyway.
but I bought the mk 4 for going cos i knew they worked great just like home.
Yeah ive heard the new GHDs work no problem in USA etc cos they adapt to the voltage/watts of whatever country you are in.
OK, I have been to the States several times. I have an adaptor plug and have used it to charge phones and charge batteries for cameras. However I have never had cause to use it for anything more powerful. I am taking a school trip to Chicago next m0nth and I know that the girls on the trip will not be able to live without their hair straighteners for a week! Can anyone tell me if such items will work properly on 110 volts? (The Hostel we are using has hair dryers so they won't be a problem). Will they just take longer to heat up, or perhap not get as hot as usual or will they just fail to work?
My experience is that they take longer to hear up and don't get as hot as at home. I have managed to use mine, but my hair isn't very curly to start with.

I went to Vegas last year and could not use my GHD's at all. i had to buy some straightners from Wallgreens while i was there.
I did have a problem with my hairdryer, I would have been there all day as it didn't get very hot at all so I used the one provided in the bathroom and found that much hotter.
To be honest, it was that hot that most of the time, I just tied my hair up and straightened my fringe.

The GHD mark 4 (New ones) are designed to be used in the UK and also in the US, but i personally have never tried them so i dont know if they live up to their promises or not!
These have a 2 year guarantee and were a bit more expensive than previous ones so I have a feeling they are the mark 4 ones, that's probably why they worked.
