Hi - don't know the Jenel apartments, but don't worry - Haraki isn't a "rock n Roll" resort. Very chilled, the bars might have music on, but it'll be music to sit and sip to, rather than up on the tables boogieing stuff!

Best place in town (in my opinion) is Da Vinci's - pizza, Italian and Greek nosh - lovely. But I know others have their own favourites.

It's over a year since my last visit, so can't remeber the bus times - I think that there's about 4 a day Lindos - Haraki - Rhodes.

Beach wise - don't bother with Haraki beach - pop little 'un in the pushchair and go to Agathi - gently shelving and sandy.

You'll enjoy it - we went back twice and we don't "do" packages!

Thanks Elenitsa,

Yes, we normally go island hopping or arrange our flights/accommodation idependently too, but with the baby it's convenient and reasonably cheap to get a package. We'll definitely check out Agathi beach too. I hope Haraki is a nice as everyone says. :)

Hi

We have been to Haraki 5 times and class it as our second home,

Davinci's is a lovely place to eat, but we eat at Dina and Manolis Taverna just up the road from there. Lovely people and food, you also feel as though you walk off a bit of your dinner when walking back into the village.

We also like Kostas and Eleana next to Haraki Dreams on the front (also the best bar).

Kostas and Eleana also run a shop up the road out of the village with traditional gifts, booze and fags.

Everybody is really friendly, and you will definately want to return.

Have a lovely time, Please let me know what you thought when you get back.

We don't know if we can make it this year.

Regards

Sarah

Hi Sarah! See Bruski, I told you that everyone had their own favourites! My favourite bar is Haraki by Night (next door to the Paradosi taverna on the front (excellent food, but a bit lacking in atmosphere the last time we went))

I think that you'll get a good meal in any of the tavernas and you can follow the trail of the cheapest draught Mythos for a drink!

Thanks for all the info ... only a few days to go, can't wait.

We 've been in haraki the last couple of weeks. We were staying in alia studios. The accommodation was excellent. Only one night out of the 14 was a bit noisy but we enjoyed it. A dancing group from north greece were visiting haraki where they gave a show on sunday night.

On monday the whole group was up in the pool bar listening to greek music and dancing. Pavlos the owner of the bar kept all the people hyper for four hours. honestly we enjoyed so much the night that we paid a deposit and booked our holidays for september in Alia 1.

The best snacks are in the swimming pool as it's the only bar that has a chef. The worst snacks though i had them in Kostas and elena, the people seem nice but my burger had the taste of fish. That is because the cook fish and burgers on the same spot.

I honestly wouldn't reccomend you Costas and elena for food. While in haraki i' ve heard a lot of stories that costas and his cousin mike that owns haraki dreams have been doing for years.

Capetanios was the best place to eat and Argo. Da vinci's has nice food but the owner steve is such an orregant person that i owuld never give him a penny.

I found that the best breakfast in haraki was in the pool bar. If you go there don't miss the BBQ night on sunday 5 euros eat as much as you can.

I'm sorry that you found Steve arrogant - he's always been very welcoming when we've been to Da Vinci's - and trust me I don't deal with arrogant people. The first year we went, I happened to say how much I liked his coffee cups (the ones with "time for coffee" in Greek on them) and he spent ages going through his receipts to find out how much they were and where he'd bought them from - even explained how to get there!

Don't eat Brit-snacks in Greece so can't comment on where's good or not.

The Pool-bar must be new - don't remeber seeing it!

Considering that he threw the plate on a lady's face, i guess that makes him arrogant. In fact there was a family this summer of what i've heard of course, that when they went there he threw the catalogues in their face and left.

Except that rumours that go around in the village saying that he says that he is the richest guy and one day will buy haraki that makes him arrogant.

Not that i care but in haraki there is too much politics going on. All the owners are badmouthing each other and that is not nice. One of the reasons we were spending all our time in the pool bar was because of the total relxation and the happy enviroment.

But everybody has a different opinion about the whole thing so...

I'm sorry Mods but I'm going to go a little :offtop here. Lora, I've been going to Greece for 22 years now, in every small village the rival businessmen will "badmouth", as you put it, everyone else - (sweeping generalisation coming up!) no Greek businessman likes to think that anyone else is ahead of them or could possibly have got where they are honestly or by behaving correctly. This is why Greeks are such good businessmen and why, if you spend any time with them, you will always hear how terrible their rivals are.

If you saw the incidents in DaVinci's (where I've eaten many times and seen nothing but friendly professionalism) or in Cocktails and Dreams (where I've drunk once but for me, it's too touristy), I can understand your views. If you've been told them by someone else in the same line of business - shrug your shoulders and say "Ti na kanoume" "What can we do" - Greek gossip is wonderfully entertaining (and quite vicious!), but always treat it as entertainment not gospel.

Back to Haraki - it's unlikely that we'll be returning, there's too much out there to see, but I forgot to recommend the first cantina on Agathi Beach - surprisingly excellent food and not overpriced - and you can eat with nice cool sand between your toes.

Sorry again, Mods - just didn't want anyone to be put off trying anywhere in Haraki because of gossip.

Helen i have seen this many times myself in Greece the stangest bit is after most of the bars close they all congregate in the last one open and chat as if nothing was wrong,,, buisness is buisness, friends are friends, and i cant tell half the time where one ends and the other starts

I think it's boredom (and devilment!) - when I lived in Greece one summer the running joke was that gossip and rumour somehow could make it round the whole island in less than 24 hours (and did!). In the summer it's work and gossip; in the winter poker and gossip (and whisky!)

as i understand you know a lot more than i do for greece, haraki, rhodes ...

Haraki is a hidden beauty although some people try to ruin it with their actions. It's a pity to lose such a beautiful place.

Although what i would like to add is everything that i've heard was from toursists. And the people that do all the gossip in haraki is the English people that live there, they don't work and have nothing to do except badmouthing. It's bad bad bad....

I so agree Elenitsa. By thw way, don't forget the tavle (backgammon) in the winter too!

As you can see by my name I love Haraki and wish I could live there forever. I so envy the few Brits who are lucky enough to have the means to live there. Maybe if I win the lottery I will be able to.Some of the comments posted by Lora I find to be offensive as she has based her remarks on hearsay and not the truth. There are very good eating places there and 99% are excellent. I think Lora spent all her holiday listening to the ramblings of a very sad, vindictive and jealous bar owner who is so jealous of the 3 owners she has targeted instead of forming her own opinions. Mike,Costas and Steve are lovely people and their places are always full with English and Greeks so they must be doing something right. Jack and Mannys place is another favourite of mine. When we go to Haraki we like to spread our custom around so eat and drink in most of the places. Must not forget Manolis and Dinas or Paradiso great food and lovely people.
I have also met the few English who live in Haraki and 4 of the 6 actually do work and do not badmouth in fact you rarely see them in the Summer because they are working. I feel sorry for Lora because she did not make the most of her holiday she should have got out and about and discovered the beauty of not only Haraki but Rhodes it really is a gem.
Cant wait to get back to Haraki in the Summer and see all our lovely friends who I have never heard badmouth as Lora puts,it about anyone they just make the holiday fantastic.
I will make no comment about the pool bar as in 2006 whilst on holiday in Haraki I saw things being done to their English neighbour that was an absolute disgrace that is not hearsay but true.
I hope Haraki does not change too much because it is nice the way it is.
