any advice on where to go to eat, drink etc would be great thanks!

Plenty of choice to eat and drink along the front, all pretty similar. Do a search on Bodrum with this site, loads of info.

Ok - along the sea front there is the Sunger Pizza restaurant. It's towards the yacht club. Doesn't just do Pizza, serves everything from macaroni cheese to grilled fish and cokertme kebaps.

For authentic Turkish food get a bus along the highway towards Yalikavak, Bitez and look out for a Tansas and a Shell garage. Just before the Shell garage is a restaurant called the Kircecgi. Great food - no alcohol and a superb head waiter called Ibrahim who speaks good english and will explain any of the dishes. Or get a bus into the Turkish end of Gumbet and try any of the restaurants there for good Turkish food.

Any othere queries, let me know?

Hi there, bodrum is great place for a holiday as its possible to get to so many other resorts from there. If you are on the front a nice place to eat is the golden plate we have had several good mals in there and they speak good english which hlps if you are not too sure what is in any of the dishes.
If you take a trip to yashi beach just past ortakent there are plenty of places there that do good food also and its a nice resort. Hope this helps Jacqui

To be honest any of the places I've mentioned do good Pide, except the Sunger.

Here's the site for the Kircicegi

There must be really good Turkish restaurants in Bodrum, just I don't tend to eat evening meals there. For lunch there are great kebap shops on the road down from the main bus station to the shopping area, get a table up on the roof terrace, have a kebap and watch the world go by down on the street.

Avoid Raffles or was it Ruffles?? Anyway food looks excellent but cold when it came out even cauliflower required a coat!! Friends of ours walked along the front and found a nice restaurant where they ate at a table on the beach...nice. If you do venture to Gumbet then i strongly recommend China Town, ask for alfie moon.. But beware, portions are huge.

There is a McDonalds too, and tastes the same as ours. Godsend for my 6 yr old who wouldn't eat the turkish food.

Have fun, it's a stunning place to be. :P

Just 1 more thing... Bodrum airport is unbelievably expensive so please go prepared especially if you have children. 2 lagers and 1 vodka 42 euro, can of soft drink 8 lira. Have fun in the sun :hyper

Just a quick tip if you need a cuppa or soft drink at Bodrum Airport. Don't go thru to departures after checking in, rather go back out of the building, turn left and walk 50 yards you'll find a tea bar, which sells everything, at slightly inflated prices, but nowhere near the prices of the cafe in the airport.

Also Bodrum isn't like the UK airports at present, you can take food and drinks thru in your hand luggage instead of buying at any of the airport outlets.

Many thanks for those tips, just passed them on to my sister who has just spent 2 hours at gatwick trying to book in as systems have gone down, now off to the security queue (it is worth it), amazingly plane not delayed....YET!!....eek

Sis has just got airborne. 1 hour and 20 mins late. She said it was chaos at gatwick, no air conditioning, hundreds of people and screaming kids. everyone in general fed up. Up in the air now and it will be worth it. She is staying at the Grand Newport in Gumbet. I returned 3 weeks ago. (little bit envious)

In all the information and subjects I have read, not many people mention Bodrum - I take it that its not the most popular resort?

I think you will find that it is because Gumbet is the beach resort of Bodrum.
Most of the hotels are in Gumbet, as is the beach. People staying in Gumbet usually visit Bodrum sometime during their hols. The market, harbour, shops, restaurants and a very well known night life is what Bodrum has. It is also very busy. The dolmus's for the surrounding areas leave from Bodrum bus station.
It is a great place to visit, but, as I said, most people prefer to stay near the beach in Gumbet or Bitez etc.

Possible reasons for this are, It's more expensive, it's smaller than Marmaris, Just because it isnt discussed recently does not mean it has not been covered in the Forum, Look back and you will find posts regarding Bodrum I assure you, Everytime I have been to Bodrum it's been very busy.

Bodrum is gorgeous, there are places to stay, we love it, it all depends what you like we are all different.
It has nice shops on cobbled streets, nice places to eat etc
As previously said it has no beach, but i dont find the beach very nice at Gumbet, not fussed on Gumbet to noisy, every one has own preference.

Joan the bars at the bottom of Bodrum have private beaches, I cant remember the names of them though.
