.....cycled from Rhodes town to Prassonissi. I will be doing it (there and back) in august - whilst my Girlfriend drives it in her jeep

From Pefkos sounds more realistic. From Rhodes Town you're going to hit mountains whatever route you take, you'd have to be very keen and VERY athletic!
No, Im definately doing it from rhodes town, the mountains are a challenge and they provide you with some welcome cooler air.
Like I said my girlfriend will be driving the jeep so she will have plenty of water.

To be honest, I wouldn't do it in a jeep in August. I'd have a decent car with air-cno on full blast!!
If she wants an air conditioned car then I will get her one so shes cool.

Make sure you've got a decent bike, ie. not some cr*ppy mountain bike from a hire shop. Road surface - in the majority - should be pretty good.
Drink plenty of water and maybe take a few of those isotonic gels as you'll need to replace all the salts/minerals you'll be sweating out.

I'm cool too matey, but if you're set on it, do it at night!
Use the coast road past Lindos, but stay away from the hills. It may be further, but less hilly. (When you get to my age, it's all downhill anyway!)

We recently drove from Kremasti to Prassonisi which is roughly about the same distance as your journey you are planning, and it took about 90 minutes by car. The roads from Kolumbia to Haraki are quite hilly and also from Kalathos to Pefkos. The remainder of the Journey is relatively flat. All the roads are Tarmac right down to Prassonisi
Beyond south of Pefkos Rhodes it is not well developed with some isolated pockets of tiny resorts and small villages. I would imagine if you are a good cyclist you may complete the journey in a day but the journey to a novice like me would be a nightmare!!!!

hi, just returned from lindos after 2 week break, you mention cycling in the mountains for the cooler air, there is no cooler air temps last week consistently in the 40s even at 8pm we had 42c was nightmare to stroll around in never mind cycle, but fair play to you and good luck and let us know how it went,i reckon a water tanker to follow you may be a good idea cheers

I have made her promise also that no matter how much I beg at the time that she hasn't to let me get in the car and makes me cycle all the way (I know what I'm like, there will be a hill and I know Ill get jealous watching her drive up while I'm busting a gut next to her, haha)

Yep, you'll probably be safer on the bike.
Good luck, anyway. Have a look at Monolithos when you get through the mountains. There's a great little taverna on the left, just before you hit the viewing point.
