Was gutted when we spent £15 on lilos to laze on in the pool only to find out the hotel we've visited 12 times (in Grna Canaria) has now banned them. According to friends this is common in all hotels on the island.
So, just wondered if this was true in other Canary islands as well as Turkey & Egypt, where we hope to go in September.
Anyone know?
smurfitt,
There were inflatables in the pool in Lanzarote when we were there in April!
They were banned in a hotel i went to a couple of years ago in Majorca, apparently for safety reasons as the lifeguard said that a child could be drowning underneath one & might not be spotted.....
That sounds sensible really Bribrian. Most Turkish hotels don't have a life guard though, not in anywhere I have been anyway and there have always been lilos in the pools. I guess it would depend on an individual hotel really.
When we stayed in Benidorm, Sol Pelicanos, lilo's were not allowed in the pool and at Flamingo Oasis only rings were allowed.
I have also heard of the lilo ban in hotel pools abroad, and have a good idea why this is the case, for when we holidayed in Egypt a couple of years ago a small child on a lilo was propelled out into the deep part of the swimming pool where the commotion caused by a teenager jumping into the water upturned the lilo and the child, who could not swim very well, and could have drowned if a nearby swimmer had not rescued him and returned him to the shallow end. There was no lifeguard present. For this reason am all in favour of such a ban, for some parents/guardians just seem to let their kids run riot around the pool, notwithstanding the fact that it only takes a few short minutes for a child to drown.
Also not allowed in the pool at Paraisio Ten Apartments in Benidorm not that it stopped the few idiotic lager louts whom were there on a stag night at the same time as we were there!!!
It would actually be a really good idea to ban idiotic people form pools! There were some awful Dutch people at the apartments we stayed at last year who would all dive bomb into the pool at the same time until it completely flooded the pool area and the stairs making it really dangerous and slippery for everyone else. They would also spend ages slamming a ball around the pool so no-one could just go in for a swim. No matter how much they were asked to stop they just kept doing it again. Now that is the kind of idiots who can cause accidents and should be banned, especially when there are children in the pool.
Unfortunately, there's no way of legislating against sheer stupidity, Kedi - but I do agree with you. Some people have no manners or consideration for others - fair enough if they slip and hurt themselves, for instance, that's their hard luck, but invariably, it's some innocent person who ends up paying the price instead.
Lilos I dont mind if the pool is big enough
In Estartit, biggest pool in the Costa Brava all inflatables are banned.

Take one sharp object, thrust into ball. Repeat if necessary!
Now that sounds like a plan
