Hi Michelle

No sharks this year to report
No problems whats so ever in Sharm with recent troubles.

Welcome back Michelle .. sorry to hear hotel was a bit of a let down . I think it's always going to be difficult for those of us that have our sharm favourites as we do end up comparing . Yep maybe a complete change is needed for you now . Off to have a peek at your review
Were the hotels full? I was on a Nile Cruise last week and the boat had less than a quarter of it's normal passengers onboard and everywhere we went the local people were telling us about how the visitors numbers were down on previous years.

I didnt realise you were back, i was just reading Spurrys review of the Premier le Reve and saw one for the GG so read that as well and it was you
Sorry it wasn't all what you expected, the food sounds like it was a bit disappointing, but it sounds like you had good time regardless, its very difficult when you have found a favorite hotel like you did in the Sonesta and then try somewhere else as you end up comparing all the time.
Someome has put up a new review for the Sofitel that sounded really nice but I couldn't place it exactly, in my mind i am thinking it is next to the Sonesta Beach so also a good location for Namma Bay.
Was it busy there ?

Yes the sofitel is up the hill next to sbr. Naama bay was very quiet, the worst year i think. Saying this the Russians are not allowed to come over from the 20 th november due to the unrest. Without them, the place was virtually empty. The problem with GG was the lack of atmosphere and we couldnt walk anywhere as all on door step. The food on all inclusive is always iffy, always cheaper cuts etc. the lack of water they supplied i found bizarre to say the least.
Our hotel was completely full, and so is xmas. GG you do have to pay a premium above normal all inclusive options. Also its not turkey etc, just fish. No decorations etc, which i find hard to believe. Sbr has decorations up from the end of november !
We are saving up for a thailand tour for our 25 th wedding anniversary.
Got back from our first ever trip to Sharm/Naama Bay although have been regulars to Cairo/Luxor/Aswan over the years. The Sofitel is just past the Sonesta Beach and, for us, worth every penny paid. Mainly Russian guests towards the end of our stay but some Scandinavians, Italians, Brits and Egyptian guests. We enjoyed our time in Naama Bay, some fantastic places to eat which I have posted here: http://www.holidaytruths.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=21230&start=40
20 minute walk into Naama Bay from the Sofitel which we did every night (and back again) although there is a courtesy bus you can take.
If you want something a bit special and some peace and quiet I can recommend the Sofitel. We will return
Was in Sharm about 6 weeks ago, before it all kicked off again in Cairo & was pleasantly suprised at how busy NB was, but I guess that will change again. We walked from the King of Bahiran Street on to the Prom all the way down to the Oonas Bar & then back a couple of nights, maybe a 40 min walk so probably similar to yours AHV. I have a mental picture of where places are but there are so many hotels it's easy to get mixed up. I like the sound of the Sofitel.
Hope you have a great time on your Thailand tour Michelle, brilliant way to celebrate your 25,

The Sofitel is next to the Oonas bar, you walk up the steps next to Oonas and continue to the top
