seeing as no-one else has answered!

we normally take around £1000 for 2 weeks for 2 adults and 2 teenagers bed and breakfast.

the wife doesn't stop spending and is useless at bartering!

this includes all meals and drinks, tailor made clothes, presents, trips, taxi fares, cigarettes for 2 and 1000 cigs to bring home.

don't normally come back with much money and always take a card in case something special takes our fancy!

just to add, my wife will only drink Malibu and diet Pepsi when we go out, which is about as expensive as it gets drinks-wise. me, i drink anything at all!

I'm sure some people take a lot less but that amount seems to work for us!

have a good holiday, h.

I spent arround £10 per day and that included 2 meals, a snack and drinks all day on the beach.

You can buy a 12 pack (pint sized bottles) of kings for arround £3.70 (not inc deposit for bottles)from offlicences.

My (new) Wife and I have been here almost three weeks. We do like our food and drinks. We spend about 400Rps between the two of us (85 = 1 Pound) on breakfast. This is a full english with tea or coffee. We might perhaps have a beer, water and light snack whilst sun bathing (400 Rps). Our biggest expense is the evening meal, Lobster with rice for wife and Crab massala for me (with drinks). These are the most expensive items on the menu and the whole lot comes to about 2500 Rps (about 30 quid). We had parents here during wedding week and all of us eating and drinking at the same restraunt came to about 3500 Rps (Four adults). Using the sun beds on the shacks is free. They will obviously ask you to but some drinks/food from the shack but you would do this anyway. We have started using the same shack and they have been looking afer us. The activities on the beach can be a bit of a rip off, fifty quid for parasending (nice try!). If you want do other things I would recommend that you use a local taxi driver to take you to the event and pay on the door (so to speak). For a little light entertainment go and ask the tour operators how much for the same trip, the comedy value is priceless. Peter Kay could'nt write the stuff they tell you!

I would also recommend that you walk to as many places as you can, Baga, Calangute & Candoline are really just one long beach. You can stroll (And I mean stroll) along the whole length in about 45 minutes. The Candoline end is the quietest with Baga being like Ibiza.

As a rule of thumb I would guess that the four of you could easily afford to live on 30 quid a day and if you are fully boarded probably about a third of that.

a good question re costs. It might be handy to have a cost of living guide for everyone- I think I'll start one now! :D

regarding tailors, we used super tailors in candolim on the t-junction.

wife had 2 suits made, both with 3/4 length jackets and we also had a pair of jeans turned up.

paid £60 for the 2 suits and the jeans were done for nothing. had to barter them down from £38 per suit, but the quality and fit were very good.

make sure that whatever you have made, clothes or jewellery, you get done during the first few days so if there are any problems they can be sorted well before you leave.

have fun,h.

Hi Nicola

Staying at calangute at dona terezhina - as said basic but its only a bed and even thouggh AI will go out for eating, deciding which trips to go on, i fancy jungle with elephants 1 night stay and trip on rice boat 1 night, wont book with tour reps though probably see tout

Although I've had suits made in Goa and no doubt they're good (Super Tailors in Candolim), I'm not sure whether it really makes sense any more.
Walk round Primark, Tesco or Asda and there's not much difference in price - certainly not enough for the hassle of measuring, fitting etc. Every hour spent in the tailor is an hour not spent on the beach!

We (2 adults, B&B, plenty adult pop!) spent bout £600 in 2 weeks so reckon about a G would be sufficient but what I really wanted to say was that when we went we took pocket change, maybe £40, and just took money out from the ATM's. Costs a quid and a half a time but thought it was worth it to avoid having large amounts of money around the place, even in a safe, and also for convenience. Plenty of ATM's in Calangute but not sure about other places.

Get a Nationwide card and it costs you nothing at all to withdraw cash :D

Agree with you Roma, seen a fab suit at Macs tailors in Nizmar "Amarni"(not) he wanted £200 . I told him where I live i could get a real Amarni suit for that.
People will bring the catalogues out with all the prices in!
some of them are getting a bit carried away with the prices now, at Musk the shop in Calangute he wanted £60 for a copy Gucci handbag  he was quoting Marian prices from the Trafford centre! needless to say he has still got it. Allan.
