I'm looking for a holiday for October and I'm struggling to think of somewhere to go so I'm looking for inspiration.
Already been to these places in October - Mexico, Portugal, Cyprus, Egypt, Malta, Tunisia.
Hubby doesn't fancy Turkey and I don't fancy the Canaries/Lanzarote so I've having problems thinking of somewhere different.
Want somewhere that the weather will be nice with (preferably) a max flight time of 6 hours. While I don't mind the odd half day on the beach, we're not after a 'laze on the beach' holiday, we want somewhere that we can can explore. We can either go for 7 or 10 days.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Crete or cyprus spring to mind
Agree about Crete - big island, lots to do.Went in October a couple of years ago - the only downside was we went when a cold front hit - but thats the risk you take - I've had a glorious hot fortnight in Rhodes in mid October and an awful cold and wet week in Tenerife a couple of years later!
Thanks Guys, but I've already been to Crete (although it was in Sep, rather than Oct) so would like to try somewhere different.
What about Morocco? We went there in 1993 and had a great holiday.
You mentioned Portugal but have you been to Madeira? haven't been there myself but have heard it's worth a visit.
A little bit further than 6 hours but have spent a great week in New Orleans too in October
Judith - good idea, hadn't thought about Maderia.
Fiona - I've been to Rhodes. I was thinking of going a bit further afield if we could get a good deal and I remember your report about NO. We've love to go to Sri Lanka but it's the wrong time of year.
Maybe I should have said that we've actually been to most of the main Greek Isles but stupidly when I posted this morning I was just thinking of where we'd been in October! I blame it on the fact I'd been up since 4.30am!!
How about the Cape Verde islands?
Cyber - looks very nice but it looks too much like an AI beach holiday and that isn't what we want.
Gawd, I sound like a right fussy knickers don't I??
I did think about Croatia as I know he does want to go there at some point but the temps don't look too good for Oct.
Im with Briar HT mod, I would talk your hubby into going to Turkey. We went in October and the weather was fantastic, about 25 every day. We stayed in Hisaronu, which is in the mountains and has some stunning views, restaurants and bars.and we found plenty of places to visit, Olu deniz for the beach, fetiye for shopping, lovely marina too. boat trips which last the day for a tenner, including wine, meal etc, and the jeep safari is supposed to be fantastic too, also a gorge(name escapes me now)which is beautiful and very good for chilling out . all this and only 4 and half hours flight time.

Right - now that's decided I've got to find him and his mates an apartment in Alpes D'Huez for their downhill competition in July.
I don't know it just never stops does it?
We have stayed in Turgutreis and Mamaris and loved it. However we visited Kusadasi from a cruise ship and, if I hadn't been before, I would have hated it from the hassle from the shopkeepers. I certainly wouldn't have rushed back after that one day visit.
There were loads of people on the cruise that swore they would stick with Greece and never visit Turkey from that visit.

Not been, but Gambia should have nice weather and might make a change from Europe. Different culture and all that.
Think you should work on hubby for another time regarding Turkey. Its so diverse, the three different areas covered by the three different airports seem to open up all sorts of possibilities. For folks who likes site seeing I should think Epheusus or Istanbul must be wonderful.

You mentioned Portugal...have you tried the Lisbon area or the nearby resorts of Estoril and Cascais. Plenty of exploring to be done here and even beaches for the odd half day and Sintra is well worth a visit.
Doe - hadn't thought about Gambia, its bound to hot there!
Luci - you are so right Luci and that's why I don't think he's given it fair consideration.
Thanks for all your help and suggestions everyone.
