Sorry posted late but wasn't sure if we were actually going on this holiday due to MIL being ill, and decided today we are going thank goodness, can anyone help me with this information needed urgently:
are there any internet cafes in Paphos
are there any nice shops and department stores to wander in
what trips can we do from Paphos, I have read about the Troodos Mountains and Egypt but don't know what these involve or how to book, is Egypt one expensive
I will be grateful if anyone can help urgently please as we are going tomorrow to be there for New Years Eve and this will be the first time we have been away for NYE so want it all to be very special now we are going
Thankyou for any help
secondly take some warm clothes as the temps the last couple of weeks has been below average [down as low as 7 deg] with heavy rain
trips
forget the Trudos unless the ski slopes are open
worth doing:- trip round the local villages, a days shopping in Lefkosia [Pafos has a market and shops but not big ones]
a bus to the tomb of the kings [unless your in walking distance]
find a nice local taverner's and celebrate the feast of Basil of Caesarea. on jan 1st [if your lucky ]

you can book a trip to the troodos mountains with your tour operator in resort, but it can be snowy up there in the winter so may be dependant on the weather.

Have a great time silver angel it will be nice to get some sun .....colleen
they have had snow [not sure how much] on Trudos the last week or so, due to continue [and the rain] for another2/3 days
It looks like there is quite a lot of snow right now on Troodos.
Wizard-we are staying in Kato Pahos at the Anemi apartments. Can you explain more about that feast on 1st jan please? The weather don't look very good so will have to take me umbrella. Troodos mountains look nice though and have snow on them, can we just go and have a look or do we have to ski there as well? Also what documents do i need if we hire a car?
Silver Angel
Depending on how severe the snow is, they often limit how far up you can go with a "normal" car. Then its restricted to 4x4 and cars with snow chains.
To hire a car, all you need is your driving license (and the money of course). Some ask for a passport too, but in my experience this is less common.
Enjoy
i said if your luck.. as I'm not sure weather the Cypriots still make a day of it... for the Greek orthodox Agia Nicolais [st Nicolas] day is 6th DEC when presents are traditional exchanged, Christmas is more a religious day, and new years eve is not a tradition but with Cyprus having been a part of the British Commonwealth for a number of years [and having a large ex-pat community] may still do something [sorry to be a bit vague but haven't been to Cyprus over new year ... prefer to sped it at home!
Thanks everyone for all your replies and so quick too but..........just one more question (ooops I sound like Colombo)...are there any spa beauty places to have nice treatments anywhere please in Kato Paphos. fancy treating myself for once.
Promise this is the very last question as we will be out of here at 4.30 am tomorrow and extremely looking forward to it now, and I can print this page to take with me.
Thanks for any help
AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO to everyone on the Cyprus forum
the majority of 4/5 star hotels will have a beauty salon, and am sure you would be able to book into one of those.
have a lovely holiday in my favourite place, and a happy new year too.
