I am looking to book a villa holiday in Menorca in May 09. I have researched lots on the internet and still am not sure which resort will be best for us, cant decide between Cala n Porter or Cala n Bosch. Any advice would be really helpful! (my children will be 7 if that helps).
Also have a choice of a villa with heated pool and one without heating, are we likely to need a pool with heating at that time of year??
cheers
Regards Mary.
PS if you are going in May you would deffinately need a heated pool as the weather can be a bit unsettled, this may was the wettest for about forty years.
Thank you very much for your reply. I really feel that cala n bosch would be better for us, the only thing putting me off is the transfer time from the airport. We are intending to stay in a villa so not too bothered about the beach as prefer the pool, but worried might not have much choice of restaurants in the evening. Do you know if there are many restaurants there?
Sorry to ask more questions
Sarah
There are lots of restaurants around the harbor.we haven't stayed there only visited. It was very busy in june with families.
Hi Sarah, we are just back from Cala'n Bosch after a our 2nd 2 week stay there. You need not worry about there being enough restaurants as there are plenty all situated around the lovely marina. We still haven't tried them all! I would definately recommend it as it has a lovely, safe feel to it perfect for young families.
We have found a lovely villa in cala n porter which my husband is really keen on, i am just a bit unsure about the resort. As i said previously, Cala n Bosch sounds perfect, except its just such a long transfer time and i dont fancy that. Hence why we cant decide between the two, decisions decisions!
Also a bit wary now about the weather after reading marys post!
Kind regards
Sarah
I haven't been in May, but I know that it can be very hit and miss, could you maybe stretch it out to June. Our first visit was last 2 weeks June and we had wall to wall sunshine for a fortnight. I do think you chances of good weather would be more or less guaranteed late June but May
Decisions, eh????!!
With regard to dates, we have to go in school holidays as i work in a school and as we fancy an early ish break, we thought end of May would be ideal - not too hot and busy, may have to think again!!!
Also i saw one of your other posts saying that you have booked a holiday in Cala Galdana, been reading lots of good things about that resort, sounds lovely, may I ask what made you book there?
Regards
Sarah
Hi Sarah, don't mind you asking at all...I would stay at Cala'n Bosch again without question, and I really love Menorca. Whilst there last week we hired a car and had a look at a lot of other resorts. We went to Cala'n Bosch for our last holiday abroad prior to this one 5 years ago and when I booked this years hol I considered Cala Galdana but thought it would possibly be too quiet for my children, so plumped for Cala'n Bosch again. We went to Cala Galdana for the day and found it to be very picturesque, lovely beach, and there appeared to be enough restaurants there for our needs. Many of the apartments there are located on the hill, however we've managed to book ones on the flat which should be ideal. We'll hire a car again too as I really enjoyed not being in one place for too long. Just fancied a change really, plus the fact that the accomodation we stayed in in Cala'n Bosch is £500 more for next year was a big factor.
I know what you mean about cost, all my friends keep telling me about holidays they seem to find which are way cheaper than what i seem to come up with!!
We basically just want somewhere not too big (big hotels just seem so noisy!!), thats why we thought a villa would be better for us as we always seem to get noisy people above us!!! and also dont want to face a scrum every morning for sunbeds! As for the resort we would just like some nice restaurants to eat in the evening, we dont tend to stay out late in bars and stuff so just want some nice restaurants and maybe a few shops to wander around.
I am now going to spend another morning trawling the internet.. what fun lol
sarah
Know what you mean about the sunbed scrum. Our apartments this year overlooked the pool and I'd see people putting out their towels to get 'their spot' at 6 in the morning when it was still dark! They'd take around 8 sunbeds, in the same position every day for the full 14 and even parked the pushchair in exactly the same spot each day! Not once did I see all of 'their' beds being used at once. It's sad really but most places seem to have this problem now and booking your own villa will certainly mean you have your own space.
After trawling the internet all morning, i am definitely steering towards a villa. Just a lot of money for 1 week!! but hey ho, heres hoping!
Thanks a lot ofr all your help
Sarah
If you are hiring a car I agree that it will take you 40-50 minutes to get to Calan Bosch from the airport. A good tip is for one of you to go and sort the car hire paperwork out while one of you waits for luggage as there can be queues for the car hire kiosks once everyone has their luggage so you can beat them to it and then be ready for the off as soon as you have your luggage, we learnt this one off the people next to us on the plane this year and intend to put it into use next year too!
I also think that Calan bosch would suit you better than Calan Porter.
I hope you have a great time wherever you end up!
Just returned from a week in a villa booked with Menorca Villa Rentals in Cala n Porter and i was definitely not disappointed. We had a lovely time. Villa was very nice, resort quiet (which suited us!), beach beautiful, will definitely be returning to Menorca again.
