Best thing to do is to get a phone card, you use an access number then a unique pin number then dial in the usual way. Some of the hotels including the F.O. give you around 200 minutes for €6 but in the phone boxes you get less, from memory I think it's about 50 odd minutes although I discovered that the phone box directly outside the F.O. gives you the same amount as the hotel so perhaps the phone is linked to the hotel.

how far is the F.O from the main strip/beach.?

The beach is approximately a 10- minute walk but would depend on if you are window shopping on the way down and to the square would take
about 20 minutes but a taxi is only about €5-6 euros.

how hot does it get in july?

Should be pretty hot in July, I hope so anyway because that's when I'm going

It will probably be busy as July and August are peak season.
