Hi, can anyone give me some info on Tenerife. Never been before - would like to stay somewhere quiet. Will be travelling with hubby and my 14 year old daughter. Would like a smaller hotel complex with a good choice of restaurants in the area, but not really into clubs and discos etc.
Have been to Lanzarote and Fuerteventura and would like to try Tenerife. Anybody suggest a resort and also a good apartment/hotel complex.
Thinking of going next May (2007!) Thanks
It is a quiet area, no discos or noisy nightlife and there you will find a lot of great complexes with nice apartments and great hotels.
The beach is very fine and also a lot of nice restaurants and bars can be found.
Try Los Cristianos
Perish the thought that on this forum someone may actually suggest the north of the island! (yes there is a north)
Puerto De La Cruz is in the North, which is green and lush compared to the south which is dry and baren. Puerto has many excellent spanish restaurants (no point on going on holiday if you want to eat english food all the time), has nightlife but is very quiet and mainly in the hotels, Teide is close and so is Loro Parque, you have lovely beaches although it is black sand and it has the Lido which is excellent for the children. I have not stayed in any hotels as we have our own place, but they all look very nice.
The north is refined and quiet and nowadays the weather is not much different from the south.
I have visited Tenerife on holiday many tiimes over the last 25years, staying in both the North and South of the Island, for the scenery I prefer the North though sometimes the weather has not been quite as good as the South, but without the odd showers and cool days the North would not be as green and lush as it is. I think the lack of discos and clubs in the North is a bonus. A really nice resort in the South is Los Gigantes/Puerto Santiago being much more laid back. Los Cristianos and most parts of Las Americas are too crowded and loud for me.
We holidayed at the Atlantida Apartments in Los Cristianos. it was set back from the really rowdy areas on the front and was a nice enjoyable holiday. there are planety of facilities and also plenty of cheap eating and alehouses nearby. The place was very clean and generally quiet. The staff were brill and it was a good base for us to explore the island from. The north is much greener and much qiueter, but when we were there the place had been wrecked by a massive tropical storm that brought down power lines etc. Dont recommend PDLA at all. Too much like Blackpool in the sun and no excape from the lucky lucky men! Teide is a great day out, but megga cold..take plenty of warm clothing..we also had great fun exploring little villages off the beaten track abit. Peurto de San Miguel i think was nice and quiet and somewhere not far from Los Gigantes was good too but i can't remember what it was called, nice restaurant called Casa Begonza..I am sure you will find somewhere.
We stayed at the Parque Santiago III apts last summer and I would thoroughly recommend them. They are situated in the nicest part of Play del Ingles (in my opinion), right at the beach, lots of lovely shops about.
Sorry Val and Rob but I don't agree about PDLA being like Blackpool. I was there just after Christmas and over New Year, only a short distance from the Veronicas bars but it was very nice. My husband and I stayed at Colon II apartments and we thought it was the best place we'd stayed in. The area around the apartments was very clean (except for New Year's Day) and there were flower beds and lovely gardens outside some of the hotels and apartments. Of course, there are parts of PDLA that would be like Blackpool but it would only be at certain time of the year and certain times of the evenings when it might get rowdy. I prefer Tenerife to Lanzarote or Gran Canaria as there are some much nicer walks and shops.
""Rowdy"" parts in Los Cristianos perish the thought, I've never seen the like always find it a watch the world go by type of place.
Have to agree with the last couple of posts, we have been travelling to Tenerife for over 20 years and love it so much that we are in the process of buying a villa and moving there permanently. I have never seen anywhere in Tenerife that resembles Blackpool, not even Veronicas - Puerto del Carmen in Lanzarote, now that is Blackpool , Southend, Great Yarmouth and any other British Seaside resort rolled into one
Oh but don't tell me you get the sun.....All that money and journey time just to get "the sun"! and if you stay in PDLA you have to travel miles to get an decent scenery as it is all baren there..... May as well go to Blackpool - ha ha......
Some like to try the local delicacies and look at scenery and get off the beaten track.
Some others like to have a holiday in the sun whilst still eating familiar food and drink etc. The beauty of this site is that most of us like to help both, without criticising any!
Hiya Joolz!!!! Yes I totally agree with you on Parque Santiago, just back last week and it is beautiful! What I liked about it was that it was in a quiet up market area, and you could walk to Los Cristainos in 15 mintues, but also walk the other way and be in the centre of PDLA in 15 minutes also. So you had the choice of quiet and local or mad and crazy.
It was lovely to have that choice.
Hope you get somewhere nice, theres so much to choose from you will be spoilt for choice!

Could not agree more. In all the time we have been travelling to Tenerife, which is over twenty years we have never and will never visit an English/Scottish/Irish bar. Why travel all that way to do the same thing that you can do in your local town centre. Also why do Brits insist on wearing their football shirts all the time. We are avid football fans but would not dream of wearing a football shirt to go to a restaurant for a meal. The only football shirt that comes with us on holiday is my 14 year old sons and even then he only wears it round the pool/beach. If I told him to put it on when we were going out in the evening he would look at me as if I was mad. In his own words, he likes to look smart when going out.
Thats very interesting Jackie, but I think the original poster was looking for suggestions on resorts and places to stay. The other posters seem to have made suggestions of some sort, I think we are all trying to help here, not to start a discussion where we criticise people's taste in clothing or a good holiday.
Don't get me wrong, if thats what people want to do is be home from home and never trying new things then that is up to them but what happens is they take over and make it a little england... It is such a shame as I remember when PDLA and surrounding area were such lovely nice, quiet, local places and I feel it has been ruined and I never go there..... It is just like being in England, only with better weather.
Mmmmm there you go, thats my rant over with, a little off the subject matter and I do apologise.....
Tootsie: I was stating in my earlier email that no-one ever mentions any where else on this forum than the south of the island!! Don't foget that the north, east and west are there!!!! It just makes me annoyed and I think that started some other posts off - sorry...
If anyone wants any information about the North please mail me personally.
We all are guilty of going off topic Munchito....me as much as anyone!.......I know what you mean about the North, it does tend to get overlooked and having visited the area many times, I do agree that it has much nicer scenery
I did make a suggestion - don't visit Brit/Scottish/Irish Bars whilst in Tenerife as you can do this in your local town centre anytime
The original poster asked for help on:-
Have been to Lanzarote and Fuerteventura and would like to try Tenerife. Anybody suggest a resort and also a good apartment/hotel complex.
Im sure she found that information really helpful!
The apartments are not brand new, but they are spacious.
The transfer to LG is not as long as to Puerto de la Cruz. I agree Puerto is a lovely place, but the weather is more unpredictable, so not such a good choice if you're only going for a week.
Am beginning to get a bit uncomfortable reading these "tit for tats" so adios!!!
