Weather
The weather in September can be hot and sunny, but in the last couple of years we have experienced some rainy days. However, I remember going around Ephesus in Turkey in torrential rain one late September.
Can't comment on the bear problem in Sunny Beach as I don't know, but it is not the only Bulgarian resort. We have never seen them in Golden Sands, for example, and the Bulgarian authorities are trying to stamp it out.

Stayed in Sunny Beach last summer and we did see a bear once. Not so much dancing as being lead around the resort by someone pulling on a chain. The poor bear looked awful. I'm glad we only saw it once (one evening around 7 pm in one of the main tourist areas.
dont want to be disapointed when i get there with it being the main holiday but really want to try somewhere different bulgaria has so many reviews thanks again!
Hi we went to Bulgaria in 2004, at the end of June, the weather was not very good for the 2 weeks. Lots of thunderstorms, however, my friend went in August (where you think it would be beautiful) but she too had thunderstorms. I saw the bear on the chain and snakes being publicly handed around for photographs.
I much prefer Turkey than Bulgaria. I have not been to Golden Sands though and reviews are more positive for that region.
Weather much better at Turkey.
The people are far nicer, more genuine and better educated than the Turkish people and we have Turkish friends also.
I find the Bulgarian cuisine much more to my taste than Turkish, and having spent some time in a purely Turkish environment a Bulgarian breakfast is far superior to the Turkish cheese, cucumber and tomato scenario.

I Have been in Sept for the past 4 years and we have only had 3 days of rain in total. Like any country you can't dictate the weather.
Last year we went to Tenerife and it rained for 5 days solid, and thats supposed to be a cert for good weather.
Bulgaria is a wonderful place with friendly people and we always feel safe somehow.
Give it a go.

thanks everyone m really tempted on going to bulgaria this year but my heart still says turkey but hey its a big world out there !
Hi Debs, We went to Golden Sands July 2005 and we had a fantastic time. We saw no bears, no snakes, 2 thunder storms and an average temperature of around 80 degrees throughout the holiday. Guess what? we are going to Golden Sands July 2006. You will have a great time. I too was a little reluctant about going to the unknown but I can't wait to get back. Hope this will twist your arm.
Have been going to Bulgaria for quite a few years now .I love the place and the people are so friendly .The thunder storms are a spectacular sight .Had a few days rain but you had the heat to go with it .So go and enjoy it June
I've experienced Turkey and Bulgaria in August. Weatherwise Turkey was fab, Bulgaria was very unpredictable. Although generaly hot, we also had a fair bit of cloud and a few downpours. When it was cloudy it was also rather cool.
We enjoyed both destinations but Turkey was our favourite. Each to their own I know but the best thing about Bulgaria was that everything was so cheap. We would go back to Turkey but Bulgaria wasn't for us. I'm sure you'll enjoy wherever you decide to go.
we were ther august last year.the bear came past the hotel each night.it wasn't dancing.the people who were dragging it round would take photo's for the tourists. withthe tourist own camera.don't know how much they charged, its not my scene.it was mainly the germans who were interested.there were also giant lizards and snakes.we also saw a croc with its mouth taped up.apart from seeing these we had a great time as usual.
