My son and myself were free the week before Christmas, so with my wife's blessing (cause she has to work that week), we tried to get a flight with accommodation to Malta from a local airport (Birmingham, Coventry East Midlands). You'd never believe it but we were offered almost any other destination but the Malta flights were all full, that is for flights returning in good time for Christmas since I thought it was playing it too brown to come back late Christmas eve or on the day itself.

What's a matter with Midland airports? Surely I'm not the only person disappointed with the lack of flights to Malta so if there's a need for more flights there ought to be more available!! :bhead
Looks like we'll be staying at home!!!!!!

Hi Dave, the benefits of going in Autumn and Winter are the same as the rest of the year in that Malta has so much to offer all year round, the islands don't change that much in the fact that the attractions and bars etc stay open because as you know Malta / Ghawdex is a living working country that happens to have tourusm, but of the course the weather does change but often not so much to be a problem, last week was warm enough for t-shirts and shorts in the day time and very mild at night time, we are returning in February and expect something similar, we always book our own flights and use private accomodation and the price we pay for that is between us and the owner as he wouldn't want me broadcasting it, any more questions please let me know.

Regards

Well Sliema2 we have managed to get a flight from Brum to Malta for a week from 8th December. Tried to do my own thing but finally did accept a remarkably good package to the Coastline! Even with a super cheap return flight (about £76 all in each return with Air Malta!), after adding the cost of the hotel room if booked direct, we still got the Coastline much cheaper than trying to do it ourselves. :hmmm

I guess if you know the right folks who have decent accommodation to rent I reckon it could be very comparatively cheap to stay there this end of the year. We must survey this possibility for the future but for now, for what we've paid for the Coastline we're sure gonna enjoy it, :yipee

Hi jojouk,

Further to my PM to you I would like to publicly say a big thank you for your input!

What I didn't tell folks was that it was only my son and myself who were going because my wife had to work that week. However, she was able to get the week off and yesterday I contacted the travel company, Mercury, who informed me that unfortunately there were no single rooms available on their allocation at The Coastline.

I telephoned the Hotel directly and was a bit gobsmacked when the Maltese lady said how well she remembered me - and of course we will make an extra room available for you! :yipee The Hotel emailed Mercury, to tell them that they will provide the extra accommodation and my wife I'm glad to say, will be with us (though our son will have the separate room now!!).

I cannot fault The Coastline Hotel, and the way their friendly staff always try to do their best for their guests. It's certainly made us want to return there several times now.

We're all really looking forward to our break there, :fly

Just arrived this lunchtime (Sun 9th dec). Got an Air Malta flight for 96 euros inc tax from Germany! Only booked it 2 days ago. Great to be back. I'm here until Wednesday morning, so just a short trip. Back on 23rd Dec for a week and my first ever xmas here. It's great to escape the commercial nonsense in the UK plus all the cr*p weather and traffic jams
