I have been to Turkey now for the past 10 years the last 5 I have been going to Icmeler. Now I like Icmeler but feel that as I have done all the trips been to many good restaurants and bars that its time for a change.
I like the size of Icmeler, plenty of restaurants etc and the resort is a nice size, not overly busy.
has anyone been to both Icmeler and Hisaranou and how do the resorts compare. Is one bigger than the other, is one more expensive than the other. I am hoping to go in May next year

But hisaronu with olu deniz is just that much nicer i think personally but many would say im bias because i have a property there

I didnt like Hisaronu, the one up the hill from Olu Deniz.I thought it was very commercialised.I like being by the sea and after trying all other resorts in Turkey,I went back to Icmeler at the beginning of the month as I feel at home there.
Hi Stewart, We have been to both and love both but Icmeler would get my vote for ease of getting about and quantity of entertainment but I am now going to throw a spanner in the works, have you thought about giving Kalkan a try ?? May is certainly a nice time to go.
went to kussadsi and hated everything about it . but some people love it ,
We went to Hisaronu 8 years ago , the trips from there are varied. We were actually staying in Patara a good hour or so away but visited Hisaronu and Olu Deniz for a day visit. Hisaronu, we found very commercialised and the front at Olu Deniz, toilets etc. were disgusting. BUT, this WAS 8 years ago. Patara and Icmeler are poles apart Stewart, if you want traditional Turkey and a small village, Patara is perfect, with a perfect beach. If you need nightlife like we do now with 2 little ones, I would suggest Icmeler. We visited Patara for many years before we had the kids but it is too quiet for kids, a pure chill out place A personal opinion of course
Thanks for the replies some food for thought there. There is only me and my better half going and we are both in late forties. We are quite happy with our own company and do not need entertainment as such. A nice meal a few drinks and some piece and quiet is what we look for on a holiday. Icmeler does seem to have that, just wondering if Hisaranou would provide the same
I went there about four (maybe five) years ago and it was quiet then. The last report I had was when my parents did a day trip there (think this was last year) and they said pretty much the entire village/resort was closed and in some cases derelict. It seems people just go there to use the beach now and not actually stay or dine in Patara itself.
Cheers.
hisaronu centrum is quite a bussling place with loads of bars a a few nightclubs but it is more peacefull if you go more into ovacik at night, fethiye is a great place and is wonderful to explore and see what it is really like
Random Number am certain there are still places open to stay in Patara as other forums have reviews etc. from this year. There is a small section on Trip Advisor
We found Dalyan a few years ago and love it, plenty to do but chilled kind of place, the river is beautiful, great for a walk day or night with the rock tombs and mountain back drop, boat trips great,
Jump the dolmus to the beach, 20 mins or boat 45 mins both nice journeys.
Lots of nice places to stay, spoilt for choice.
I tgoo love Icmeler and havee been there many times. I also went to Olu Deniz but that never did anything for me..not siure why, ised to go up to Hisaronu but was not impressed.
For the last two years we have been going to Kalkan which is quite small but there is something about it that draws you to it. Prices are dearer but the quality of food and service are great. From Kalkan there is a bus that takes you to Fethye, Patara Beach and Kas. There are no sandy beaches in Kalkan but beach clubs which are brilliant...upi get into the sea from a ladder, so need to be able to swim!!! The only downside is the hilly location but the views are breath taking.
Friends we met lasy year in Kalkan had to cancel due to XL problems and got a good deal in Dalyan, they had a lovely time and said for them it was better as it was flatter.
Next year we may get a package deal due to the price of he flights (we book direct with the hotel in Kalkan) At the moment I am looking towards Icmeler again or trying Side!

Stewart, on the basis of the criteria mentioned above, I would recommend Yalikavak (flying to Bodrum). It sounds like the type of place you might enjoy. It is however smaller than both Icmeler and Hisaronu.
Apologies for throwing another option at you but I would say it is well worth considering.
Beautiful seaside village, 20-30 restaurants, half a dozen quiet bars, nice marina and seafront, lots of small quality hotels and only 45 minutes from airport.
Also only half an hour dolmus trip from Bodrum
Iain
Or maybe Bitez?
