Prices have gone up in Turkey this year definately.
We only went b&b this year and wished we had gone hb because most of our spending money went on the meals of an evening, however, I could not fault the quality of the meals though :(

I was there in July and will be there again in a couple of weeks, no way did I pay that much! We had a gorgeous 3 course steak meal for 20ytl each and never got ripped off for drinks prices. The only time we got a shockingly high bill was when we went into Olu Deniz asking for just a shish with some salad (as it appeared on the board) and got charged for bread (had been free in most Hisaronu places) then served the most expensive kebab on the menu.

Sure, Turkey isn't the almost-free prices it once was but it still beats the eurozone and you can't beat it for atmosphere in my opinion :)

You would expect to pay more in Olu Deniz because its nr beach/water

Like AuntiePink has stated you can get things a lot cheaper than the prices mentiones and going off the feeback from people who have been this year you can make it as expensive as you want and as cheap as you want.

Feedback on the Efes is from 3.5TL -5TL with the most common price being 4tl (£1 = approx 2.35TL divided by 4 = £1.14)not bad for a Pint .

Sorry it should have been 4 divided by 2.35 = £1.70 still not bad.

Absolutely, huge*abba*fan. I expected to pay more in Olu than Hisaronu, I just didn't like asking for what we'd seen on the board then being served something different and 4 times the price after we'd been so specific before sitting down.

Still, as I said, that was one of 7 evening meals and 7 lunches so I'm still a huge*Turkey*fan! ;)

Well if it is that expensive in Hisaronu this year I'll have to rob a bank to be able to afford to eat and drink out!!! :yikes :yikes

Take the tights off yer head, taz_nut! It's as dear or cheap as you make it, we had lovely and very good value meals in the Lemon Tree, the Green House and many other places that I can't think of the names of :duh

Don't be dragged into the first place you get called by, take a walk around and note the prices for the meal you're after - some are cheaper for fish, others for chinese etc. Most have prices openly displayed outside and a friendly 'no thanks' as you keep walking is enough to put off the callers.

Find Dippy Dollys in Hisaronu (it's on the street behind the fairground - parallel to the main street). You can get a 3 course meal for TWO with a bottle of wine (decent) for 38TL (yes, for two). It's good food and good service for an amazing price.

We were not paying anywhere NEAR that for food and drinks in May in Hisaronu. 4 - 5 lira for an Efes. 20 lira ish for a bottle of wine. And the meals ranged from 4 lira for a kebab to 20 lira + for a large steak meal.

Before we went I was really worried after reading stories of the prices sky rocketing, but we spent no more money than in previous years, and we never scrimped.

Anthony,
Do not at all be put off by what your friend says.Beer prices on average like has been said, between 3.5 and 5 lira in most bars in Hisaronu.Food varies in price, but plenty of value to be had.Would like to know where these expensive bars are because it is not the norm.Think if you go in places like Time Out which is open all night you may pay big prices for drinks. As has been said Olu is more expensive but Hisaronu is still reasonable for a night out.
Regards Dave

the average price for effes is 4 lira but the prices should be advertised on a board by law
food is still very reasonable but if you want the fancy places it will cost, but as said earlier dippy dollys just opposite migros near go-kart track is really good value and zaffer the owner always has a story to tell
as said previously by dave the late night bars are always more expesive, also do not run a bar tab with the waiters you will get ripped off
order drinks and pay for them better still go to the bar yourself order and pay you know what you are paying for
do not be affraid to ask how much before you buy

ohhh that's interesting Maverick. I always run a tab with the waiters - particularly in Aloha and the Lycian - and have never felt that I was ripped off, although I may have been and not noticed after a few drinks :cheers

I've only been to Time Out once and it really wasn't for me, but there I went to the bar to order drinks and paid right away.

im not saying everywhere but its all down to the waiter if he is trying to get more money,Aloha and the Lycian bars are great bars but as i say it is ussally down to the waiter
trust me i grew up on the seafront in southend i know all the tricks lol

We have just returned from Hisaronu and were not paying anything like that large beer was 3 Lire in most bars a couple were even 2.5 and some were 4 which was the highest we payed. local spirits 5-7 lire and a glass of wine 5,the most we payed for a meal was £8 per person that was including first drink any starter and any main course from menu and a choice off deserts, another restaurant we frequented often was any starter and any chicken, pasta, pizza or turkish special from menu 10 lira per person We were in Hisaronu in May and found prices then were much higher than now in August.also prices of triips seemed cheaper we went on jeep safari for £10 and boat trip with only 20 people on boat for £5 per person.

I think it's 'Dippy Dolly's' for us every day next week and the week after if those prices are correct.
Thanks for the tip Yorkshire boy :tup

I too am a first timer to Hisaronu, not many people from my part of the country had even heard of it so i have been quite worried, i now dont need to worry as the comments on the fourm are positive. We are staying at the Orca hotel and would appreciate any feedback about the hotel. There seems to be plenty reviews about the villas but not so many for the hotel. Anyone been? :cheers
