Can you tell me what tenerife is like for shopping & also where the best place to shop is?

Depends where you're staying... If you're in PDLA then I'd recommend a walk around the Safari shopping centre, just over the road from the Mare Nostrum - go at night and watch the dancing fountains :D There's plenty of lovely designer stores in that area of the resort - prices aren't shockingly cheap, but you're guaranteed to get something you won't see at home.
Your hotel reps will probably recommend their day trip to the island's capital, Santa Cruz in the north. I've never been, but apparently it's full of tax-free designer shops (so I've been told...)

Hi Andrew
Definitely browse the Safari C.C. (Ground floor) as there are at least a couple of lovely gift shops. You'll recognise them by the nice things that are displayed in their windows. I'm positive you'll find something different and quite tasteful there.
Enjoy your holiday when the time comes. :)

I have been to Tenerife several times and have been to Tiedi twice.
Once when the lift was working and once when it was closed due to wind.
I appreciate it is one of the most popular trips, but I did find the experience very over-rated.
My missus also had an asthma attack while on second trip, and I would advise any other sufferers take precautions.
One blast of sulphur and my missus collapsed in a heap.

If people do go I would strongly suggest they put their winter woolies on and check the lift is working.

Apologies for original flippant post

The San Eugenio centre (near Las Dalias hotel) has some good shops and is a nice area. If you're on the aquapark side of the motorway however, it's still a good 10 mins hike downhill which may not be good for your broken toe :( If you're really set on a good shopping trip I recommend you get a taxi from your hotel to the Safari shopping centre and Parque Santiago area, spend a good few hours browsing round there (believe me you can make a good few hours of it...) it's nice and flat in that area so you should be OK if you take it easy, and then get a taxi back

Apology accepted :) I firmly believe Tenerife is a place with something for everyone whatever their tastes. Sorry to hear about your wife's asthma attack - hopefully she soon recovered and enjoyed the rest of the holiday.

Agree with cyberspacekadette re:taking a taxi to the SafariC.C.
Have very often seen and spoken to people arriving in taxis from other areas, just so that they can pay the Safari centre and the area a visit.
In fact, couldn't resist my daily visit there in October, even though I wasn't staying in the Mare Nostrum for the first time in ages. Drove the hire car down there every day! :)

I do not close topics because of a disagreement between members but because of the nature of the disagreement which can sometimes boil over. I always think prevention is better than cure and if I can stop the disagreement getting out of hand then I'll post to that effect.

I would also thank wooltonian for the apology rendered and hope that the courteous acceptance of same will bode well for the future.

Thanks to all who have contributed to this particular topic.
