Hi!
Planning a trip to Egypt (Sharm) in March for our honeymoon.
Found a fabby deal at the Golden Resort, which I want to book as soon as possible.
But, I want to book in my married name (which it will be in March). I can get my new passport issued before the wedding, but it wont be valid til the wedding. This is not a problem.
But will I be allowed entry into Egypt on a Postdated passport (albeit a new 10 year one?)
Has anyone else done this, or know the answer?
I have emailed the consulate, but understandably this could take a while for a reply.
Thanks
Gill
I'm 99% sure that when they issue a revised passport (or an early renewal) the date starts when the actual renewal takes place (or on the wedding day if it is for a marriage) and then runs for ten years PLUS the balance left on the old passport - so for your honeymoon it won't be a postdated passport but one that is just a day or so old - if you follow !!!!
A little more info please will probably help people to advise you.
1. Will you be getting married in the UK prior to going to Egypt ?
2. Do you already have a valid passport in your single name?
3. If yes, does it have six months left on it?
Tez
1. Yes, get married on 3rd March, going on 5th March.
2. Yes have a valid passport with about 8 years left on it now. (But that wont be valid once I change my name IYSWIM)
The consulate have actually replied saying :"Regarding your enquiry, we don't issue visas on post dated passports. You can travel with your maiden name or get the visa upon arrival."
So does that mean I can get my new passport, and go as Mrs Haggis, and just get the Visa issued when we arrive in Sharm?
Thanks!
Thanks a lot Briar! Thats exactly what I wanted to hear!!
We just had a couple staying with us who have been married since two years though the bride is still travelling on a passport with her maiden name on it. No problems with that at all.
It's a civil ceremony, but the registrar signs the same form.
Yippee!
5th March - Golden Resort.
The shocker....400 quid cheaper with Thomas Cook than with Eclipse!
Looked so odd seeing my 'new' name, tho!
So very excited now!
