Theres also a place called ranco grande just outside of can picafort, most of the tour ops have nights down there. there are 4 groups, non riders, they have sangria on a cart pulled along by 2 beautiful horses, then 3 groups for riders, beginner to experienced.

The horses are all well looked after, and the 'cow boys' are very friendly. the rides themselves go through some lovely countryside and towards a beach. When u get back theres a meal and some dancing before heading back to alcudia.

I loved the place when i repped in majorca.

A couple of posts have asked about horse riding in the South-West.
There is a ranch at Son Font, just east of Calvia town, which is itself
a few kilometres inland from Santa Ponsa. So far as I know you can still hire horses there and the surrounding slightly hilly countryside is spectacular. Probably not ideal for novices. Hope this helps.

Hi 8)

has anyone got any idea how much the horse riding sessions are at the Ranch in Sa Coma? We are due to stay at the Coma gran Aparthotel in May, an fancied a bit of horse riding, so if anyone can help I'd appreciate it.

Cheers 8)

I think that it is about 10 euros for a 2 hour ride. You normally go out with about 10-15 other horses which includes a leader and are taken to a bar on the headland. Remember to take some money in order to buy a drink.

Hi Suzanne 8)

Not sure on the horse riding, but i stayed in the Coma Gran last year and it was excellent, the food was superb plenty for the kids to do, and the thomson entertainers are brill especially Leo.

Hi 8)

I did loads of reading up on the Coma Gran, it does sound really good!! We have a 10 & 2 year old, and always tend to go 'Superfamily' because of the facilities, but this is the 1st year that we've done one with creche facilities, and that was a big selling point, as the 2 year old is a handful and it'll be nice to have a bit of occassional respite!!!!
Any advice re room numbers?? we like views so high up isn't a problem, but also needs to be quieter 8)

Hi There,
We were on the 3rd floor overlooking the pool which was quiet good. The beach is lovely and the resort is not too big. We used to go into a pub at night called the Kings Head on the crossroads 2 mins from the hotel, the DJ was brill and good entertainment for the children. There is a adventure playground for the kids up near the main road. The pirate show is also good down in Magaluf.

not too far from yr resort is rancho grande, i loved it a few years back when i was a holiday rep in alcudia, used to go there 3 times a week. all the tour operators run a night down there, its not cheap but its a great experience.

Hi 8)

I already looked at your site, which is where I saw about the horse riding. It's a really useful site which has answered the majority of my questions already, thanks 8) . I've been to Mallorca many times but not this area before at all, but I'm really looking forward to it. We are going on a budget (just bought a house!!) so will be looking for child friendly, good value bars & restaurants, but also may yet do some half board at the Coma Gran, although we're booked as s/c. So I may well be back with some questions. Thanks for the offer 8)

Hi again 8)

we go 13th May - 24th May. There's only me that wants to ride, the rest of the family aren't really interested. Are the horses there well looked after?? I went to the one in Alcudia, and had to walk away as the horses there were in a terrible state, they also looked drugged  . I will only ride if the horses are well treated, which from the pics I've seen looks to be the case.

Thought I'd tag my question on to this topic. I'll be staying in Cala Bona in August and will be taking along a 12 year old girl who is keen to go horse riding. The Sa Coma horse riding ranch would be easy to get to but looking at the link above, the pictures show riders without hats :( . Do these places provide any protective headgear etc if you request it? I know hats are probably uncomfortable in the heat but the ground in the area is very rocky and I don't think I would feel safe to allow her to ride without protection (we could pack her own if they don't)! Like Molliemoo, I would also welcome any views on the welfare of the horses.

Thanks
