We have booked to go in July 2008, but have just received notification from the travel agent that major building works is happening at that time, and we are being told by them to change our holiday.
Does anyone have any info whatsoever on the building works that are happening next door?
Thanks for any info

can't imagine what works would be going on that would cause any concern other than the hotel that is being built inland of the hotel and this has been going on for at least 3 years. I would ask for some clarification and specific details of what it is and where it is before cancelling. Perhaps some sort of get out for a mistake by the travel agent.
There were building works when we were there, but they didn't effect us at all. The hotel next door was in the process of being finished but we honestly didn't hear a thing. Plus as most hotels in this area are 4 and 5 * they are set in there own grounds and not right next door to each other anyway. Maybe you could make a seperate post asking for anyone in that area if they know anything or if they can check it out for you.
Thanks for the advice on sea view rooms, I've kept it simple, mentioned we have been their before and asked for both a sea view and a view over one of the pools, as that means we will be on the inside of the U I hope.
hi i have just booked a holiday to this hotel for the last 2 weeks in june could someone advise as to what the arangements are at meals times,ie does the hotel staff take you to a vacant table which is preferable,or is it pot luck and you find your own table..
Most times you are shown to a table, If you arrive at the restaurant and there is no one at the entrance you can go in and find your own table if you want. Never had to queue at the door.
We got 608B which looked directly out from the reception area to the sea, over the pool. Anyone getting 605-609B (or 705-709B) you'll get a great room.
I can't see the hotel surviving unless it is full during half terms though...
I am torn between the Dunas Paraiso (great deal at the moment) or Bahia Principle. Trying to compare the Dunas Paraiso to other AI hotels I have been too. Has anyone been to any of the following hotels and also to the Dunas Paraiso?
Louis Phaethon, Paphos, Cyprus
Sun Palace, Faliraki, Rhodes
Paraiso Floral, Tenerife
Esmeralda, Menorca
If anyone has, could they give me there opinion as to whether the Dunas Paraiso is any better or worse that the previous hotels that I have stayed in.
Most important thing is a clean room, good food, reasonable lager/beer, nice pool.
Many thanks for anyone's replies.

Just got back from this hotel on Friday and can summarise the following:
Hotel is clean and tidy, very big, we had a villa at the front of the hotel with a great view of the rocky bay. Villa was spacious, en-suite bathroom for me and the wife, separate bedroom for the kids. Had to request the room be re-sprayed one week into the holiday as we had 2 live cucarachas in the en-suite bathroom on seperate nights - the staff sprayed and left the can for me. Next night we found a dead one in the bathroom, the night after a dead one in our bedroom, so I re-sprayed regularly and we had no more.
When we arrived the hotel was absolutely lifting with Spanish because of the Bank Holiday weekend - and they behaved like animals both around the pool, at the bars and in the restaurant. On the Thursday of our first week into the holiday 500 kids were booked into the hotel for the 'Juegos de Canarias', which were games and tournaments being played on Tenerife to celebrate Canarian Week. Overall we weren't affected by the kids, only at dinner time in the restaurant on Friday evening, which resulted in the hotel running out of certain foods and feeling like you were eating your meal in the middle of King's Cross.
Food was the usual you would get in a 4-star, nothing to write home about and repetitive by the second week.
You could only get one size of beer - small, so I eventually moved onto spirits as they lasted longer once you were back to the sunbed.
Inbetween these two events the hotel was really nice and quiet - pool was very nice and usually empty and there were no queues for anything.
There isn't anything to do outside the hotel, and be prepared that wherever you walk there is a hill, as the hotel is set right at the bottom of a long hillside. This includes within the complex if you are walking between the restaurant area and pool area / themed restaurant / villas.
The entertainment is shocking. Enough said.
I'll hopefully get around to writing a detailed review in the next week or so.
Algo mas preguntas?

I've stayed at both the Dunas Paraiso and the Bahia Principe and I'd definitely say the BP was the better of the two. Nicer pools/gardens and generally the hotel has a bit more finesse.
Thanks Crockett,
