I can go back 10 years whilst staying in the Pelicanos before the underground carparks were built and the new drains installed, when the Ocas was flooded from the "river" outside and we were staying on the top floor in the Pelicanos and the water put the lift "out of use", the artex on the ceiling was dropping off in chunks and the water was streaming down the walls on the top floor with blankets draped all over the corridors to "mop up" the water.
The amount of rain that fell in such a short space of time, was probably the equivalent of what caused flooding in the UK this year and most of the hotels are not built to withstand exceptional rainfall that Benidorm experiences from time to time.
Another factor, is that most hotels have flat roofs either to accommodate swimming pools, air con systems and solar panels .and flat roofs are notorious for leaking whether in Benidorm, Barnsley or Buckinghamshire.
The Ocas got flooded again which is not suprising as the reception is built below street level, but it must be heartbreaking for the manager, especially when the new drains installed outside were supposed to prevent this....but it just goes to show that even they couldn't cope.
Looking at some of the pictures showing the damage in Alicante province, then Benidorm got off lightly.
Some rain, that's all I can say.
