We are thinking of going to Agidir next year, staying at the Hotel Kamal.
Has anyone stayed there. If so what is it like. Lizziebeth.
We stayed at the hotel Kamal in Feb 03 & enjoyed our stay there.
The hotel was a little dated & there was no entertainment in the evening. However the staff were lovely & the room was clean & ok.
The hotel is in the perfect location for fixed priced shopping & not too far from beach.
We also ate where the locals ate, which is just across the road & up the back streets.
We caught the local buses, walked to their market.
We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in Agadir & would go back again.
Hope this helps
AJ
Thanks for your reply. It sounds very good. I have been reading about Morocco in a guide book, which says that you have to be very careful when you go out and about as some locals might mug you, or just generally make themselves a big nuisance. Is this just over the top and scaremongering. I would be grateful if you could put our minds at ease, as I would really like to go there. Lizziebeth
We never felt threatened at all when we were out & about. We caught the local buses & went to other villages (just got off where the locals did).
We also did a lot of walking in Agadir & ate with the locals. However when you eat where the locals eat, there is no alcohol.
There are plenty of other places to eat & drink & it is very cheap. Extremely cheap, if you eat up in the town with the locals.
We did hear that someone in our hotel had been robbed at the local market but we went & was ok. I think as long as you are careful you should be fine.
We would definetly return again.
ps sorry I mispelt your name earlier.
Hi Ameliajane, Thank you for answering so promtly. That has really put our minds at ease. I think that we will be booking up for next year fairly soon. One more thing I would like to know--what views are there from the balconies? Don't worry about the spelling. The important thing is your snswer. Thanks again. Lizziebeth.
I seem to remember that the balcony was only small & overlooked some flats (like a side street). However we did sit out a couple of times.
There are more modern hotels than the Kamal but the location is excellent as its in the town (shopping area) & near to the old town. On speaking to people on the coach home, they were saying they wish they had stayed at the Kamal for its location.
We paid extra & went for half board & we were glad we did, at night it was cool & saved us having to go out. The weather through the day was hot, so we tended to stay out all day & relax in the evening. We also found it was cheaper to book half board, then pay at the hotel.
We didn't go in a taxi but if you do, make sure you agree a price first, as I seem to remember that someone paid a lot of money just to go around the block.
It's just a shame that there was no entertainment but there was a bar area.
Hi Ameliajane, Thanks once again for your information. As long as we can sit on the balcony with a bottle of wine and people watch, sometimes it will be O.K. We intend to go at the end of April, so it would probably be warmer then. Is there plenty to do and see in the town, as we are a couple of pensioners. Lizzie.
There's enough room on the balcony for 2 & a bottle of wine (exactly what we did).
If your fit & able to walk then there's plenty to see.
Walk into old town, nice churches/mosques to see & we also enjoyed people watching especialy the locals.
There's a park, lots of shops, local fish market, a walk up to the kasbah, souk etc.
Look at this site http://lexicorient.com/morocco/agadir.htm & this will give you a good idea.
We went on a trip to Tarroudannt & enjoyed it. I think the village we went to on the local bus was Azazoul, not a lot there but quaint & on the sea front. Locals were painting their fishing boats & their was a main square (where bus pulled up). then across the road was a lovely walk up the hills. This is the type of things we like to do, I'm in my forties & hubby in his late 50's, last year infact.
When we booked it was a quickie through teletext & we got it a lot cheaper (just over £200 each, I think).
AJ
Thanks Ameliajane. You have certainly made me excited about Agidir and Hotel Kamal. Bye for now . Thanks once again for your trouble
