Well if you don't want kids then i'd stick with the idea of going in September and miss the school holidays. The weather will still be very good but it will be slightly quieter than August.

The location of Solemar or Lito is good for sightseeing as you're close to Rhodes Town. It's a great base for exploring the Old Town, taking boat trips, etc.

Both hotels are a bit dated but central and i know The Solemar has nice, friendly staff as i lived there for a little while. They're not the best in Ixia but not bad if you're on a budget.
