I got an e mail reply back comfirming that they would do that.
Its not cheeky to ask and if you explain why I am sure there should be no problem with your request, so get them emailed.

Hi Rosie ... it's not cheeky at all. You may prefer a balcony with direct sunshine, others may prefer one in the shade. It's the same with preferences for high floors or low floors. If you don't ask, you may not get ! The hotel may not be able to guarantee your request, but most would usually do their best to meet your preferences/special requests.
they'll do their best to accommodate you I can sympathise with the
joint pain so go for it girl
