We're considering going to Benidorm in September with our 18 month old baby, i was wondering if anyone could help by letting me know whether there are lots of family bars around or not?

Yes, there are plenty of family bars, however, personally speaking, nightclubs are not somewhere that I would take an 18 month old child.
Most people talk of bars, but tend to include bars with entertainment advertised outside that is adult entertainment, which is not what I mean.
I class them as nightclubs, as the entertainment runs into the small hours.
Also, which hotels would be recommended considering we have a young child

Most hotels are very family orientated as the Spanish love children and Benidorm has had plenty of years getting to know what the British want, However there are a few that are geared to older clients, but generally speaking most popular hotels that the British go too, are geared up for toddlers.
It depends whether you want half board or all inclusive....and what is most important to you, IE: near the beach, in the old town, in the new town, near the hub of entertainment or slightly further away with just some bars nearby.?
Under normal circumstances I would have suggested the Sol Pelicanos, but as there are major construction works taking place across the road, then me personally, I would give that a miss for the time being.

It depends on your budget...the A1 hotel Flamingo Oasis is very geared up for children with the staff speaking perfect English, but it is a bit of a trek to the beach in comparison to the Hotel Pelicanos or the Hotel Rosamar for example.

I think you need to do a bit of research on Benidorm and narrow down your priorities, then maybe we can help you more.

Can recommend Pancho's, round the back of the hotel Don Pancho, who has Captain Britain on most evenings, he's a kids entertainer. What hotel are you staying in? Most of them have a mini disco for kids, usually half eightish.

Pancho's is quite a walk from there then, perhaps some other members could be of help as we always stay Rincon area. Enjoy your holiday
