Hi,
You can get a bus from Monte Gordo direct to Olhao. It takes roughly 1hr 15m. Not to sure of the actual distance though, maybe between 30-40 km?
You can also get a train but they are much less frequent.
Go to http://www.eva-bus.net to download timetables and http://www.cp.pt for trains.

The distance is around 30 miles. I visited Olhao in September and enjoyed it. There is a great fish market as well as a fruit/veg market. It seemed quite busy and had lots of character. You will have no bother with a bus, not 100% sure of a train tho'.
