Hi all
Just wondered how many books you take for a weeks or fortnights holiday? Was having this discussion at work and some people say it takes the whole week for them to read a whole book.
I take as many as I can carry, usually around 6 and hope there is a book exchange in the hotel as I usually read 10 books on a 2 week holiday.
my husband,has bought me a kindle,for xmas,so i will see how i get on with it.at least i won't be carrying,heavy hard backs,in my suitcase.
tracy
Like Jay, I take four or five for a fortnight and hope the resort has an exchange..
I go with the best intentions of reading a few books but I am just to nosey, can't sit and read a book have to watch what is going on all around or go wandering off somewhere

Exactly the same here Graham I do manage to read 2 or maybe 3 but I also take a mag around the pool because it's easier to dip in and out of when my mind gets distracted by my surroundings.
I normally take a couple, but this year I have downloaded 5 or 6 audio books to my iPod. Saves on weight
The joy of the iPad/ebook readers - take your entire collection, and choose when you finish a book, rather than before you go
I'm a really fast reader, so I've often thought about getting one of the e-book readers, but to be honest, I quite enjoy actually having a book in my hands and turning the pages, if you know what I mean...
And you can't you the iPod to stop your towel blowing off the sunlounger when you're in the pool! Well not if you want to be sure it'll still be there when you get back....
I usually take 3 or 4 doorstep sized! Then I raid the hotel shelves. Biggest mistake I ever did was finding a volume of Field Marshal Slims' memoirs "Defeat into Victory". Mrs said to pick it up tomorrow, but when i got there it had gone! So dissapointed, as my dad served with him in Burma during second World War.

Ahh, but I can solve that problem - get yourself an Itsa! Best holiday purchase I've ever made!
(google it...)
Before I had children I would take about 4 as I would lay by the pool or beach read for hours but now I usually only manage to read 1 as I am watching out for the girls most of the time in the day so I ony really read once they sleep at night.
I took 5 this year on a 2 week holiday to the Dom Rep, but i'd finished them all by the end of the first week and was almost pulling my teeth out by the second without any reading material! I'm planning to take about 7 to Egypt next year.
I do usually only manage one on a weeks holiday, for reasons already given, I am a bit nosey and like to people watch and also enjoy chatting to people too, so I tend to read when I want a quiet moment, plus I do also take a few magazines with me.
If we go as a group then just 2 or 3 as we swop with each other. When it was just hubby and I last year I took 4, but managed to get through 7 (with the help of the hotel library).

I hope you are still talking about books Helen
Can't believe I wrote that!
where do you get the time from to read all them books in 2 weeks am i doing something wrong this year i took two books and didn't finsih one of them , when we used to travel by coach to spain i would take more to break the journey up .
Lindy - my 2 week main holiday is of the "drop and flop" kind. If it's just hubby and I, then there isn't exactly a riveting conversation going on So I'm mostly reading on my sunbed, and if we go back to the room for a siesta, then I read on the balcony, while hubby snores
