When we go on holiday (also family of 3) we usually take about £1500 for two weeks.
We normally go self catering and normally would buy baguettes, cheese and ham for breakfast and lunch but eat out at night. It really depends if you eat out always for breakfast but to save money
take cereal, coffee, tea bags etc. We eat out every night and maybe pop into a bar for a few drinks
and then go back to apartments for a drink on the balcony. But with a 12 year old we are always
buying ice cream, drinks etc that eats up your money.
It really depends if you eat out all the time and where you like to have dinner but you can get some
reasonable restaurants.
We usually come back with some money but like to take that little bit extra just in case we need it.

Whenever me and my girlfriend go self catering to Greece we usually budget on about £50 each a day. We went to Argassi for a week a couple of years ago and £700 covered eating all meals out, drinks and a couple of excursions. As Striker09 says I suppose it depends on how often you'll be eating out, how much you'll be drinking etc

we usually estimate about £50 per day but this can be less if you have breakfast in, cereal, eggs etc. We always seek out the local bakery, you can get a crusty loaf for 1 euro or less, make butties for lunch or buy seasonal fruit to take to the beach.

We would eat out most nights but our holiday in Skopolos last year was in a villa that was a good drive from the town so we ate in quite a lot, we visited the supermarkets in the day and picked up meat or fish to cook back at the villa along with crusty bread and cheese and of course local wine, which was really cheep, this we ate on the balcony were we had a wounderful view and we really enjoyed this and returned home with about 200 euros, so we will do this again. It proved to us that you don't have to eat every meal out, and with the savings we might be able to have another holiday later in the year.

If you do eat out, go where the Greeks go, even the ones with the rickety chairs, usually these are cheaper and the food much better than the touristy harbour front places.

It is worth remembering that with the £ now being at it's lowest rate against the Euro for years the cost of any purchases in the Eurozone are 17 - 20% higher this year than they were last year.

This will have an impact on your spending power so maybe worth taking a bit extra if you can.

We just got back on Thursday and we spent £1000 in a week between 2 of us.

I thought prices were a lot more expensive this time.
English breakfasts were being advertised between 5-8 Euro
most places we had a drink in were 8-10 euro a time for 1 bottle corona and 1 vodka and coke.
You can find cheaper places to eat and if you stick to local drinks Mythos is a nice lager and it would be less and thats okay if you like local brands.
The only thing that I dont think had gone up were the taxi fares.

1 icecream dish in our hotel was 8 euro

The rate exchange was between 1.2-1.22 I actually got a better rates from M&S before I went.
