i am thinking that should be plenty.....

we usually do 2 weeks in the summer, 2 adults, 2 teenagers, we do lots of boat trips, and buy bits and bobs and have never spent over £2000

budget for around £30 per person per day, thats what we do......and have always managed, and never skimped on anything

Hi Madmomma, are you going for a fortnight or a week? If it's a week, you'll be fine. If it's a fortnight, it will depend on what sort of restaurants you eat at and whether you like a drink or two :cheers Also, are you hoping to do any trips?

I think that deciding how much to take when holidaying abroad is very much a personal thing and is therefore difficult to advise, though I did start a thread on how you can holiday on a tight budget when in Turkey, but obviously this is not a worry for you.
Just go with the amount you have quoted for it is easy enough to withdraw more money when in Turkey from any cashpoint, and most resorts have plenty of cashpoints available, this will mean paying certain charges for using the cashpoint when abroad and you do need to inform your bank before you go that you may be using your card when in Turkey, otherwise they might block any transactions.

Hi there,

That will be plenty. Last year we stayed self cattering with 2 adults and 2 small children and we spent £1700. We did trips and bought clothes and ate out every day. We like a good few beverages too :) . You might spend a bit more than us as a lot of the kids meals are free when the adults eat but probably not teenagers ;) . oh and that included taking taxis everywhere as we were there when the dolomus bombs went off a few years ago and are kind of scared of them now!

I usually bank on £100 a day, some days you spend more some less and take a couple of hundred extra for spends on clothes and bags :) It has gone up a bit this year so we will be taking the same staying half board.... we won't eat at the hotel every day tho.....

You can withdraw money at the atms tho so if ypu run low you can just get a bit extra

We are probably only going to have about £1700 and that's for 2 weeks for 3 adults (one of them my poor student daughter who never has any money of her own :think ) and my 15 year old in self catering.

Not sure if we will do any trips we will have to see how the money goes. We would like to eat out each day although things like breakfast we will have in apartment.
We would have liked to have taken more but have had so much to pay out for the past couple of months. If anyone has any money saving ideas i would be more than happy to hear them :tup

We also have to be careful with spending money when on holiday, having spent quite a bit already on flights and accommodation for my husband and I, and 3 of our grown up kids who are also students, though they try to contribute whatever they can.
I did start a thread on holidaying in Turkey on a tight budget, but here are a few tips -
- don't eat in seafront restaurants/bars, these are the most expensive, try venturing up the side streets etc., and find the local eateries where the Turkish people go, it is much cheaper, and the food is generally quite good
- try making picnics for during the day rather than eating out, just a few delicious Turkish bagels with cheese/tuna etc., and some salad, usually goes down well with our lot
- rather than booking expensive trips, checkout where the local dolmus goes and hop on to see another resort/place of interest
- take as many items with you if you are going to be self-catering, keeping in mind that the most expensive items in Turkey are coffee and breakfast cereals, but you can also take tinned tuna (no perishables these can be seized at the airport, or if your luggage goes missing for any length of time will 'go off') pasta, dried noodles, tinned meats, tinned beans, UHT milk etc.
- if you like a drink or two don't go to bars, buy your alcohol in the supermarket

Hope this helps, it might sound like a lot of effort, but we actually enjoy doing things differently, it can be fun and you get to see more of the real Turkey and mix with ordinary locals.

Hi Shirley, I'm going for 2 weeks and was planning on doing boat trips to various beaches, maybe a couple of visits to a hamman but mainly just chilling on the beach at Patara.
Food wise I'm not really one for posh restaurants so will be happy with cheap n cheerful as long as it's clean and edible and maybe just one or two visits to more up market eateries.

Last time I was in Turkey was 15 years ago and it was very cheap in them days, appears not much cheaper than Greece from what I am reading .... I should have gone back to Kos ... ho hum, too late now!

we are takeing £2000 this year just 2 adults, only 1 drinker but we have never spent what we take (have been close but always come back with spare moneys)
I would not worry too much as you will soon start to budget naturally, as we all do i think you will be surprised how far your money will go, and remember you don`t have to eat a 3 course meal everynight.

sometimes it`s nice to have a snacky type meal in between the large meals, i think too much emphasis is placed on large meals everynight, your going on holiday so relax eat and drink sensibly and you`ll have a fantastic time.
do a few trips, buy the usual tat for friends and family (or not if your that worried). and remember your going to the largest resort in turkey so the competition between businesses is huge so don`t be affraid to haggle (i always do).
Just have a fantastic time and relax you wil be fine.

Very good advice! I always get some beer etc from the supermarket to keep in the room for before we go out etc.

Again, very good advice. Have kebab or something one evening.

we never eat a 3 course meal every night,no night in fact!
we wouldn't at home,so we don't on holiday.sometimes, even eating a cooked meal, every night, gets too much & we will just, get some fresh bread & cheese or something light, for a couple of times, during our holiday.
what i do like though,which we don't at home,is a cooked breakfast.
where our money,tends to go though,is on drinks,as i don't drink lager,so it's either cocktails or vodka,which aren't exactly cheap.
when they serve beer,in the icy glasses,i really wish,i liked lager,as it looks so refreshing, but i just don't like the taste :(
we are also not ones, for laying around sunbathing,we have to be out & about,so you tend to be spending more.
how much to take, really does differ.better to take too much, than too little though,

I thought ardath's advice was really good. You can find really good places to eat that are far less than water side restaurants. The pide houses are usually very good value. If you like a drink or two buy it duty free on the plane or the airport on the way out. Don't buy water in the hotel bar, get it from a super market. It's a good idea to research the area before you go and then look for local buses going to various destinations and so much cheaper than organised tours. Those staying in Marmaris can find buses going to Turunc and Icmeler. For further away bus trips try Datca (fantastic scenery on the way) or the Bozburun peninsula. There are loads of boat trips. Spend an evening walking along by the boats and asking the prices, most will be cheaper direct than through an agent.

We've just got back. We spent £1400 in two weeks, self catering. 2 adults. That was eating out every night and having some drinks. We had breakfast out a few mornings too but mostly did fruit and toast in the villa and made sandwiches for lunch. We also did a few trips - boat trip, horseriding and paragliding.

Hi,

Last year we budgeted £100 per day, there are 2 of us. We didn't spend all of this....always find the first couple of days dearer as you pay for safety deposit box or book a couple of trips for example.

We had breakfast at the hotel as were on B and B and that saved £. Lunch we just had takeaway sandwiches or the like.

Like another poster said we NEVER eat 3 courses on holiday for an evening meal.....never at home either!!! Therefore sometimes set meals just aren't worth it for us or we just don't fancy it.

The one thing that was very good value for money we felt were the trips.....we went on a boat trip. £5 for all day including lunch, there arent' many places you can get that sort of deal nowadays.
