... but not as expensive as it was!
Just returned from a wonderful two weeks in Aghios Gordios. The resort was very quiet, but our apartments were fully booked with both direct sell and package guests. Most of us were returning to the resort for the 2nd, 7th or even 25th time!
The Sea Breeze s even more stunning after it's refit of the bar and a few of the apartments. My sister got the absolutely outstanding two bedroom maisonette.
The only thing that spoiled an idyllic trip was the cost in the resort. an Ouzo and sprite is now 3.50 (an ouzo and water 2.50, so a whole euro for a shot of lemonade!) Beer still reasonable but I'm not too fond of Mythos. Cocktails in a beachside place are up to 8 euros apiece and as a family of four we didnt get much change from 50 euros for a single course meal with drinks and small tip.
Waterpark is 25 euros each and is very quiet. Car hire about 28 euros a day for Fiat Panda/ Corsa. Bread 1 euro, even local stuff from the supermarket like tsatsiki and feta is very pricey. After a couple of days we drove to Lidl in Corfu town and filed the fridge for 2/3s the prices in resort. Even 3 peaches and an apricot from the fruit shop cost 3.50!
If you must have an English breakfast in a taverna it will set you back 7 euros and not much less than that for a greek breakfast.
We were talking to George who runs the supermarket by the bus stop, his wife is British and he said that the Brits have stopped cut down a lot on impulse buys this year and even he is aware that prices in the UK are much, much cheaper than there.
Don't bother getting booze in the supermarket, it's cheaper in the airport and as they are being very strict on luggage weight could save you 8 euros per kg in overweight charges.
I'm sorry if I come across as a right old skinflint but every penny really does count for me and my family at the moment as my Hubby is about to be laid off and this could be our last holiday in beautiful Greece for a fair few years and counting the pennies tainted it a little.

Quick hint on what to take if you have spare suitcase space to save on basics
Insect repellent/ fly spray for mossies, 79p here, 3 euros plus there
Suncream.. expect to pay over 15 euros for a decent brand
Breakfast cereal
Jar of coffee/ tea bags (a cup of coffee is now 2 euros plus in a taverna.)
shampoo/showergel/conditioner etc
I am glad that you enjoyed your recent holiday in Ag Gordois - it is a lovely resort.
I would like to report that the prices that you found are not at all typical and in many cases very expensive. We are in Roda and I know that the bar & Restaurant owners are trying very hard not to increase prices here.
Most beers are around 2.50 eros and we even have the local Corfiot beer at just 2 euros. Cocktails remain at around 4 euros. English breeakfasts are available in the village from 2,70 up to 4,50 for a generous and well cooked/presented breakfast.
As for meals - I would expect at least 2 courses with drinks for around 50 euros - we ate out the other night and had starters and main courses (which were large portions), drinks and the bill was just 25 euros for us both.
If people would like to know about Roda then please have a look for Roda Online.
I do hope that you will make it back to Greece soon and that your husband is not out of work for long.

We picked up a 500ml beer for a euro and a 1.5-litre bottle of retsina and another of rose for 1.99 euro each! I appreciate not everyone likes retsina, but the rose was not disimilar to stuff you'd buy in a supermarket at home.
Meat was also very good quality and cheap.
For a family of four adults and one child we were regularly paying 80-90 euros for a meal, although Ag stef is notoriously expensive. However we could manage to eat out for 50-60 euros just a couple of years ago.
For the first holiday ever we made a concious effort not to go to restaurants for lunch.
Am going to St George South at the end of August, and have already made a conscious decision to not eat out so much at lunchtime for the 2 weeks we are there.According to reports the prices of meals and drinks are a lot lower than in Aghios Stephanos North. We will also probably eat out every other night.
I think a lot of people are doing the same, although it doesn't help the proprietors much!
To enjoy the 2 weeks, we have to cut corners somewhere and eating on the balcony with fresh bread and a healthy salad is going to do me ok!!
Roll on 28th August!!
