Most hotels in Tunisia have an exchange facility and as the Averroes is a 4 or 5* (I forget which) I would be surprised if this was an exception. I have stayed at another Iberostar hotel in Hammamet and this definitely offered currency exchange. You may want to check the opening hours of the exchange desk though as it will almost certainly not be 24hour.

As for cash v travellers cheques, this is very much your choice. When I started going to Tunisia I always took t cheques but now usually take cash and a card or two for emergencies etc. However, some hotels will only cash t cheques for their own guests whereas with cash you could always go to another hotel if your hotel's exchange isn't open when you need it.

Yes the hotel does exchange pounds for Tunisian dinars - but it will not give you Pounds for Dinars!

You also cannot take Dinars out of the country, they can be exchanged for pounds only at the airport and then only at a poor rate of exchange.

There are ATM's nearby so you will not have any problems getting spending money, things are pretty cheap as well.

Averroes is a very good hotel cool and airy and right on the beach - but don't be too tempted by the puddings bar, I put on 8lbs in two weeks, its so attractive and beautiful to look at.
