No worries David, that's what friends are for. I've sometimes found it helpful to speak to a hotel personally, but not more than a week before arrival as they don't always have your name on their list until then. Even if this does lead to a request for a bottle of whisky or gin, as happened with me once, it still works out cheaper than paying the tour operator for an upgrade. Just make sure you make a note of the name of the person to whom you speak, and heaven help you if it's Mohammed as there is invariably more than one of them.

Got a superfast reply! I asked about the possibility of a (free) room upgrade as we have stayed there a couple of times in the past. They'll try and accommodate us at 20TND a night for a sea view! lol. Not exactly what I was looking for but at least I got a quick reply!

Is that 20TDN each or for the room? In any case it isn't that much of a bargain, especially as you are a returning guest. I'm glad you got a quick reply though as at least you know in advance where you stand.

20TND for the room per day. We're going for 10 days so that's roughly £80 in my estimation! Doesn't seem a lot but when I've already paid £1400 it's an extra I can and will do without! lol

Just bear in mind that I'm keeping a note of people who owe me a drink if we ever end up in the same area at the same time. You'll probably be safe though as I usually stick to Sousse.
