Hi we are a couple in our late 40's who usually go to Mallorca (Cala Bona, the quiet side not for ravers!!) We would like to try Turkey but cannot decide which resort is best for us? We like to have a full on seaview from our room as our favourite pastime is sitting on our balcony after a day out and soaking up the views. We have looked at St.Nicholas Heights hotel in Hisaronu, which ticks all boxes but we are a little concerned it may be too out of the way? We are not beach lovers in the respect of sunbathing but do enjoy seeing a lovely beach, we like to shop and we love sightseeing. Most of our evenings in spain are usually spent walking along the promenades people watching and just enjoying stopping at seafront bars for a drink or two, relaxed not frenetic places! Icmeler looks very nice so if there were a hotel similar to St.Nicholas Heights there that may be just perfect? Any advice greatly received as brochures are sending us boggle eyed!! We are thinking of late June to visit is this very busy time of year to go?
many Thanks
Tony
Olu deniz sounts to me like your best bet, although i have never been to icmeler, olu deniz ticks all them boxes. The beach is lovely and only a short walk to the blue lagoon
plenty of shops and bars and lovely resteraunts but such a different atmosphere than Hisaronu, it is alot more relaxed. Hope you find what your looking for. I'm in the process of booking my holiday and undecided on whether to stay in Olu deniz or Hisaronu!

well we stayed in hissarono last year and it was fab but definatewly no sea views and a good bus ride to the beach at olu deniz, it was lovely there but i thought the beach front was a bit small compared to some in spain. marmaris has a long prom, also altinkum which i feel is the best of the lot ite got everything you have requested.
Hi, Olu Deniz is lovely but is getting more crowded, the beach front is beautiful and the lagoon, watching the paragliders is great. The hotels do not really have sea views as they are all low rise but a good option are the bars right on the front where you can relax on a bean bag and watch the beautiful sun sets. There are shops in Olu and you can easily catch the bus to Hisaranou or Fethiye, also plenty of sight seeing.
Another option is Turunc or Akayaka they are both lovely picturesque resorts and I think you may get a sea view from them at a few places but not all.
Don't leave it too late in June as it does get busier then as many European countries and Turkey itself the schools are shut and it gets busy. Early June and early September are lovely times.

i agree with lady akyaka is fab but not sure if it will be too laid back for you as there isnt much to do and not a lot of shops, plenty of stunning scenery and a gorgeous beach where you would get a hotel with a sea view, magician is right in the middle of the beach and has gorgeous views from their balconies, we have been told this is being renovated this year . this is our favourite place to go we absolutely love it there, but we like the more turkish resorts, have a look at the link anyway see what you think
i wouldnt go to hisaronu as i cant imagine that having sea views its inland about 2 miles,as someone already suggested olu deniz would be better, another place thats nice and has plenty of shops, bar, restaurants is icmeler, there are some hotels along their sea front

I didnt like Olu Deniz, sorry Olu lovers! as I found it claustrophobic.
I have been to all other Turkish main resorts except those in the Bodrum area and find Icmeler suits us best.It is a nice flat resort with a promenade or beach path that goes all the way to Marmaris. It is a very scenic resort with a shingle beach. There are quiet spots at both ends of the beach with spectacular views. There are some lovely hotels right on the sea front with lovely sea views. You can visit Marmaris or Turunc by water taxi or Dolmus. The locals are lovely and many have worked in the resort for many years. They always seem to remember you which makes you feel welcome.
It has lots of very good restaurants and is the only place in Turkey I would go B&B or SC.
We only go early and late season so cant comment on high season.
If you look on Icmeler on line there are lots of photos of the resort and restaurants.

I would say The Marti Hotel in Icmeler, not as new as St.Nichols Heights but in a better location. It has its own section of beach, The pool areas were lovely, There are two outdoor pools, one which has entertainment and the other where you are left alone. You can have HB or AI but we used to go out every night aroud the town for drinks. Lovely atmosphere.
Plenty of trips available. One nice day trip is to Akyaka and Datca which can be booked locally, lovely scenery along the way.
As Jay says numerous boat trips, you certainly would not be bored here.
Another of my favourites is Kalkan but then this does not suit everyone as it is quite hilly but it has that little something special.......very laid back, no beaches as such but beach clubs but Patara Beach is easily reached. Some brilliant small boutique hotels can be found here.
I am sure you will love Turkey.

Tony, Of your choices, I would plump for Icmeler. If you want busy then Marmaris is only a dolmus ride away. Through past experience it is best to go B & B, this then doesn't restrict you and gives you the opportunity to sample Turkish cuisine. There is a discussion running about Icmeler(last post April 22nd, 2008).
As Barbh said, there is always Kalkan but you need to travel by dolmus to Patara beach for the finest beach in Turkey, if not the world. Another resort to consider is Altinkum, again, there is a discussion running on both Altinkum(last post October 17th, 2008) and Kalkan(last post August 21st, 2008).
