Since you live in England for 11 months a year why to look for something "English" when you are over here? Corfu is a nice place but too "English" in my opinion. There are so many other choices that really I am confused what to propose i.e. Parga, Paxoi, Syvota, Lefkas, Kefallonia, all at Ionian sea. At Aegeon Sea, Hydra, Spetses, Samos, Kos, Santorini, Milos, Sifnos, Samothraki, Thasos, Limnos, Lesvos, Rhodes, Kalymnos, Karpathos, Symi, Folegandros, Astypalaia and many more.

Anyway, tell me how you want to spend your holidays, if you can travel by ship, if you are going to hire a car, what do you like to see and visit on an island and I could send you proposals.
There are more than 1500 populated islands in Greece where Bars, Tavernas and Restaurants are not a problem

We like to hire a car for a few days and see the sights, find our own way around etc. We want somewhere that's fairly lively but not too lively!! (so fussy!), generally nice food and places to chill out.Thought about Kefalonia but have heard it is very quiet, maybe too quiet??Nice scenery, nice people, nice food, nice chilled out bars, NOT many enlish pubs!!

Still confused Becki!

Can you tell me to which greek islands there are flights straight from England that you can take? Otherwise you may have to travel by ship which will be too exausted.
Kafalonia is a nice Island but very-very big thus you will need a car to see everything. Fiscardo is one of the most nice villages, quiet but not "dead", only a little expensive and depence the season crowdy.
Skala is a nice place but there were a huge fire last summer and I do not have infos how it looks now. Lassi is a little crowdy but nice place, close to city of Argostoli. Assos, Skala, Ag. Efimia & Lixouri are very quiet to your taste I believe.

I think we can get direst flights to: Crete, Zante, Kefalonia, Corfu, mainland Greece, Rhodes and Kos.

That's about it though!

Also direct flights to Skiathos, Mykonos and Samos, anyone of these has what you're looking for.

Forgot Lemnos and Santorini probably because I hav'nt visited these two yet.

We have also been to Tsivili and really enjoyed it. We are a couple of young 40 somethings and for us Kefalonia was more suited to the over 50's, while we were there in May anyway. We stayed in Lassi which is mean't to be the busiest resort in Kefalonia but still found it a bit too quiet for us. We have been to Gouvia in Corfu which we enjoyed, Ixia in Rhodes loved the island but not so keen on the resort and Tingaki in Kos which we really loved and to compare it to Tsivilli it was on par with a lovely sandy beach, plenty of good Tavernas and a few nice bars, it also had easy access to Kos town where there was loads to see. Car hire is also available and easy to get around. When we stayed in Tsvilli we were right next to the Phoenix hotel and were in the Zante maris hotel which could'nt have been in a better location .Next year we are of to Kamira in santorini and Rethymomn in Crete have never been to these islands before so am really looking forward to them.Just love the greek islands.

Cant imagine how I forgot direct flights to Lesvos!!!
